Description

G. L. MGCAHAN.
Circular Saw-Mills.
No.l50,875. Patented MEQ/12,1874.
UNITED rrrcn.
GEORGE Il. MGOAHAN, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
IMPROVEMENT IN CIRCULAR-SAW MILLS.
Spccication forming part of Letters Patent No. 150,575, dated May 12, 1874 application iled April 7, 1874.
vTo all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, GEORGE L. McGAnAN, of the city of Baltimore and State of Maryland, have invented certain Improvements in Circular-Saw Mills, of which the following is a speciiication; and I do hereby declare that in the same is contained a full, clear, and exact description of my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
My invention relates to a stand admitting of the placing of a scantlingroller and diskwedge in separate bearings, the latter being in a bearing adapting it to be adjusted to suit the angle of inclination at which the saw is set, i-t being common to set the saw at a slight angle to give it clearance and prevent scoring of the log. A portion of this stand is also designed to lead or direct such thin stuff as may be sawed. to the scantling-roller, and to prevent such stu from becoming obstructed by the stand instead of passing over the said roller, and inconvenience and possible danger to the sawyer Or machinery from such cause.
In the further description of my invention which follows, due reference must be had to the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure l is a plan view, Fig. 2 a front elevation, and Fig. 3 a transverse section, of a portion of a saw-frame having my improvements thereon.
Similar letters of reference indicate similar parts of the invention in all the views.
A is the saw-frame, B, the scantling-roller, and C, the disk-\vedge. The scantling-roller is mounted in bearings a and a secured to the v saw-frame, the bearing a having attached to it an additional bearing, a, for the pin of the disk-wedge D. The bearing a is adjustable in the direction of the length of the scantlingroller, the foot of the bearing being provided with a slot through which a bolt is passed, securing the foot to the bearing a. The scantling roller and pin of the disk-wedge are thus in parallel bearings, and the disk-wedge capawhile the latter is performing its function oiA keeping open the cut, the scantling-roller can be used for drawing other lumber baclr thereupon, which operation is found to be very convenient under certain circumstances.
Having thus described my inventiomwhat I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
l. The scantlingroller B and disk-wedge O in separate parallel bearings, the latter being in a bearing capable of adjustment in the direction of the length of the scantling-roller, when relatively arranged, as and for the purposes specied.
2. The horn b on the front portion of the y bearing a., arranged, with relation to the diskwedge C and the bearing-roller, as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereto subscribed my name this 31st day of March, A.
GEORGE L. MOGAHAN. Witnesses WM. H. H. YOUNG, GEO. W. TAYLOR.
