To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, KATHERINE LARK, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Brooklyn, Kings County, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Babies Caps, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to head coverings in the nature of close-fitting bonnets for infants and young children.

The objects of the invention are to provide a close-fitting cap adaptable for both winter and summer wear, which will be light and attractive and which will be hygienic and be easily kept clean.

vThe accompanying drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention, wherein the foregoing and other objects are attained and in which;

Figure 1 is a side elevation showing the fastenings at one side of the cap released to permit separation of the two parts of the cap.

The two parts of the cap are designated 5 and 6 both fashioned to closely fit the head of an infant. The first part is in fact complete in itself and adapted to be used as a cap for summer or warm weather wear, having streamers 7 or other suitable means for securing the same in position.

The other part is in the nature of a lining for the first member, being preferably somewlrat smaller so as to fit easily thereinto. Being shaped in correspondence to the shape of the outer part, the lining readily keeps its place and need only be held at the outer edge.

The fastenings for securing the lining in place in the present disclosure are of the snap fastener type and disposed at the front corners and at two intermediate points at the sides of the cap, as indicated at 8 and 9 respectively. A special feature of these snap fasteners is that the ball parts of the fasteners are located on the outer face of the lining and that the sockets of the fasteners are located on the inner face of the outer part or cap proper. As a further means of protection, the outer cap member may have a protective strip 10 about the forward edge of the same which can be turned back when both parts are in use and which can be turned under to cover the socket members of the fasteners when only the light cap is being used.

The lining member may be constructed with an interlining of suitable warm material, which acts also as an aid to holding the part in shape ready for insertion in the cap.

The lining is shown as having ornamental lace ruching 11 projecting about the edges of the same and the cap is shown as distinctively decorated at 12 so that the effect of two differently appearing caps may be obtained by using the cap alone or combined with the lining The cap and its lining are each complete, permanently shaped parts and so can be readily put together and taken apart with- I out the annoyance of fastening and unfastening any strings, pins or the like, and when both are made of washable fabric, they may be cleaned, either one or both, whenever necessary. What I claim is:

1. An infants cap comprising a unitary permanently shaped outer cap member, full fashioned to itself completely fit the head of an infant and form lit complete cap, a lining for said cap member, said lining also being a unitary completely formed permanently shaped full fashioned cap member to fit within and give shape to the outer cap member, both said permanently shaped cap and lining, members having imperforate and continuous forward edges whereby the forward portion of the cap member presents a complete finished appearance whether or not the lining is within the same and whereby such continuous edges provide bases for the attachment of fasteners and cooperating snap fastener elements secured on the inner face of the continuous forward edge of the. cap member and on the outer face of the corresponding edge of the cap lining to detachably hold the permanently shaped lining in position within and imparting its shape to the cap member and permitting inst-ant separation of the lining from the cap by simple separation of the snap fasteners at the forward edges of the lining and cap members.
