Description
G. G. PAINTER. INFANTS GARMENT.
APPLICATION FILED NOV. 6, 1911.
1,079,798 Patented Nov. 25, 1913.
INVENTOR GERTRU'D'E GLOVER PAINTER, 0F PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
INFANTS GARMENT.
Specifioation of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 6, 1911. Serial No. 658.692
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GERTRUDE GLovER PAINTER, a citizen of the United States of- America, residing at Pittsburgh, the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsyl vania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Infants Garments, of
which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the vaccompany.- ing drawing.
This invention relates to a childs gar-' ment, and the objects of my'invention are to provide, first, a garment and blanket for children adapted either as a slumber robe or robe to be worn whenever it is desired to especially protect the child against cold or inclement weather. Second, a robe so 0onstructedas to completely protect. the chest, back, lower limbs and body, yet .provide freedom of motion. Third, a robe and blanket that will permit of the requisite warmth being obtained without rendering the robe bulky or uncomfortable to the wearer, and fourth, a childs blanket that is inexpensive to manufacture, easy to place upon the child,
and highly eflicient for protecting the wearer. v
I attain the above objects by a construction that will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein 5- Figure 1 is a plan of the garment in an open position and partly broken away. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same partially closed, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the garment illustrating the same upon a child.
A robe and blanket in accordance with this invention comprises a jacket having a foldable skirt for covering the lower limbs of .a child. The jacket, which is in the form of a tubular garment, consists of a front piece- 1, a rear piece 2 and sleeves 3. The rear piece 2 is open'or slitted at the neck, as at 4. and provided with strings 5, ribbons or other fastening means whereby the jacket can be secured upon a child. The skirt which is designated by the reference character 6 forms a continuation of the front of with side flaps 7. The upper portion of the skirt 6, cent-rally thereof, is secured to the front of the jacket in proximity to thelower end of said jacket or rear piece 2. The lower end of the flaps have strings 8 or other fastening means and similar strings 9 are arranged -intermediate the ends of the side After the jacket has been'placedvupon the child, the side flaps 7 can be tucked around the child or not, as the mother may prefer, and when the child is placed upon a bed, in a crib or upon a suitable support, the skirt is folded upwardly over the child and the strings 8 and 9 secured to the bedding or to the structure upon which the child lies.- In
some instances safety pins can be employed.
for securing the skirt to the bedding and in other instances the strings'can be tied to the structure. The skirt is of sufficient size to permit of the free movement of the body beneath the same without the child becoming uncovered. ,When a child is to be carried, the skirt can be folded upwardly in the rear to inclose the lower limbs and. protect the child. In case it is necessary to change the child during the night, this can be done without disturbing the child, .by simply folding up the skirt of blanket. The
device will also be found very efficient for sick or convalescent children when able to recline or sit up inbed, as they are fully protected.
The garment in its entirety can be made of light and durable fabric, andof various SIZGS.
What I claim is An infa'nts garment comprising a jacket including a tubular body portion and a pair of'sleeves, said body portion having the rear thereof provided with a slit terminating in the neck of said body portion, a skirt forming a continuation of the front of the body portion and consisting of an oblong pieceof material, said material of a'width to project from each side of the jacket to provide flaps with the top edges of these latter above the lower edge of the rear of the body portion,
the, body portion and the skirt 6 is provided Patented Nov.2 5,1913.
said flaps capable of being folded'around corner of the material said material of the the limbs of the infant, said skirt further same width from end to end. of; a length whereby the flaps are folded In testimony whereof I aflix my signature around the limbs of the' infant and can be in the presence of two witnesses.
. folded upwardly over the infant and ex- GERTRUDE GLOVER fAINTER. tend upon said body, strings projecting from Witnesses:
each side of the material intermediate its MAX H. SROLOVI'IZ,
7 ends, and strings projecting from each lower N. LOUIS BOGHER.
