Be it known that I, RALPH \V. DoNNELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nevada, in the county of Vernon and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VlI'G-StlQtCllGl Ex tensions,-of which the following is a specivice may be supported beyond the last post in the fence line in such a manner as to permit the proper stretching of the wire between the last two posts.

Another object of the invention is the provision in a manner as hereinafter setforth, of an extension device for wire stretchers which may be adjusted to any height of post, and which when in adjust/ed position will be more tightly held against the post, as the tension is increased upon the wire being stretched by the stretcher.

A further and final object of the invention, is the provision in a manner as hereinafter set forth, of an extension device for wire stretchers which may be folded when not in use, which is light, strong and durable, and inexpensive to manufacture.

The invention will be best understood from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, with the understanding that the invention is not confined to any strict conformity with the showing of the drawings, but may be changed and modified solong as such changes and modifications mark no material departure from the salient features of the invention.

In the drawings Figure 1 is an elevation of the device embodying this invention as it would appear when in use.

Referring now to the drawings in detail, wherei like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views of the drawings, the device: embodyingthis invention is shown as comprising a pair of leg members 1 and 2, each having one of its ends sharpened as at 3, and 'having their other ends crossed as at 4:.

Passed' through the/crossed ends 40f the legs 1 and 2, is a combined hook and eye member 5, having the hook 6 and the eye 7 separated by a shank 8, which shank extends through the cross members 1 and 2 to secure them together. The crossed ends of the legs 1 and 2 are pivoted on the shank 8 of this combined member 5.

Engaged in the eye 7 of the member 5 is a coupling chain 9 carrying at its other end a hook 10. The purpose of this chain and hook is as follows. When the leg members 1 and 2 are opened out and their points 3 made to engage a post 11 as indicated in Rig. 1, the chain 9 is extended rearwardly to the post and extended partially around the post, and the hook 10 is engaged in the post upon the side opposite from the side approached by the chain, as is clearly shown in Fig. 2. The chain is normally of a greater length than either of the leg -mem-' bers 1 and 2, so that when the leg members are in position, the free end of the chain which carries the hook, can be passed around the post and the hook engaged in the opposite side of the post. After the device has been set up in this position, a wire stretcher 12 of any approved design is engaged with the hook 6, and upon putting tension upon the wire 13, attached to the stretcher 12, the outer or crossed ends 4 of the member will be drawn over toward pair of rigid leg members each having one end sharpened for engagement with a fence post, a combined hook and eye member 1n- -eluding a shank connecting the hook with the eye, the said shank extending through and pivot-ally connecting one end of said members together a flexible coupling element connected at one end to said eye, and adapted to engage the fence post for securing the said device in a lateral position with respect to the post, and said hook adapted to be connected to a wire stretcher upon the side of the leg members opposite to that occupied by said flexible coupling element.

2. A combined wire stretcher extension brace and suspension device, formed of a pair of rigid leg members each having one end sharpened for engagement with a fence post, and one of said leg members further being oflset at its pointed end, a combined hook and. eye member including a shank connecting the hook with the eye, said shank extending through and pivotally connecting one end of said members together, a flexible coupling element connected at one end to said eye, a hook at the other end of said flexible element adapted to engage in the fence post for securing the said device in a lateral position with respect to the post, and said shank carried hook adapted to be connected to a wire stretcher at the s ide of said leg members opposite to the side from which said flexible element extends.
