My invention relates to a: sewings and and has for its primary object theprovision of anew and improved sewing; stand which willbe relatively light in welght; strong and A more speoific'object of theinvention is toprovide a foldingstand-of the abovecharactercomprismga foldingframc and a sewing-Shag. suspendedtherefrom so' as: to be opened and closed-in response to the opening and closing movement ofthe frame and to provide in .a stand of this character nn proved means for rigidifying the frame;
which means is yieldable' topermit removal of the elements of'the frameto which thesewingzbag is attached;
provide, in a 'stand of theabovetohar'acter, a
sewing bagrhaving tension straps,.whichstraps are so proportioned as to limit the opening movement of the stand without tensioning themarginsof thebag The'invonti-on has for-further obgectsrthenovel and improved arrangements construc tions, and combinationsof parts and devices hereinafter described and claimed for. oarrye.
mg. out the above" mentioned objects and such 'otherobjects as will appear from the detailed rjlescripti'onof the invention: 5
The preferred. embodiment of my invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig; 1 is a 'view in perspective of my improved sewing stand."
Fig. 2 is a cross sectionalview through the upper portion ofthe stand with. part of the hem of theisewmgbag brokenaway to show the construction more clearly.
Fig; 3 isaside view in elevation ofthe sewingstand.
Fig. 4 1s a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 44 of Fig; l to'lllustrate the oonstructioirof the'end seam and-toshow the manner in which certain side brace elements are engagedwvith thecross leg members ot' the frame, and I Fig. 5 is a i'ragmentary'view 1n section taken on line 5 5"0f Fig. 1," and illustrate ing in dotted lines the manner in which the cross legs may be moved laterally to'permit ready detachment of the sewing bag ing; members.
The embodiment "of my invention shown in the accompanying each end of the trams.
supportdrawing may be deseribed generally I frame 10, from saidtramm and means, including removable side braces'12 and 13, and
desired.
Their-sine portionof my invention is pref-j erably made up o- flegs 16 and 17 at each end,
crossed as. shown in Fig; 1 of the drawing and pivoted together so as to be foldednp Thelegs at one. end or the frameare connected with corre-* or spreadapart as desired.

point of intersection by means of a through openings 21,. 17respectively. The openings 21 in the legs 16 are preferably counterbore, as shown at 23 in 5 to provide'a spring'pocketat and'15 surround the endsoftherigidifying bar 20 and are held in said spring pockets. by washers 2-1 attachedto opposite endsot the rod 20. d I y The springs 14 and 15 are normally'slightly tensioned n their 3 operative position so as. to exert springpressure against the legs as to hold the removable side of the stand, so braces 12 and 13 firmly Within the sockets25 at the upperends of thelegs'. The springs,
however, may be compressed to'permitthe' braces to be removed from the sockets *when desired. With this construction, the braces 12 and 13 may have a loose fit in the sockets 25, so as to permit their removal without ditliculty, rigid construction."
The sewing bag washable material, of any desired grade, and is formed so that side margins of the bag are'preferably provided with open-ended hems 26;27', ada ted 13 with hems 28 and 29,- each of which encloses" a tension strap 30. The end hems and the tension straps are attached at their ends to the side hems -26 and 27 so as to limit. the

is preferably made of the opening of the bag will be of a rectangular configuration. The
hems are also, by preference,
opening movement of the frame. The tension straps 30 are preferably, though not necessarily, slightly shorter than the end hem so that the end hem will present a slightfullness or shirred effect when the sewing stand is in its opened position. The side made slightly longer than the space between the legs 16-16, so that both side margins of the bag will present'a crimped or shirred effect when the said hems are fitted over the side braces 12 and 13.
The end of the cloth along the hem 27 is preferably folded up and stitched as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2, to provide a row of pockets for holding the sewing material.
In applying or removing the sewing bag, the legs at one end are forced outwardly as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 5. With the legs in this position the removable braces 12 and 13 may be readily removed from the sockets 25 formed in the upper end of the legs. The side braces when in their operative position are held firmly by reason of the tension exerted by the springs 13 and 14 upon the legs 16-16. The stand, it will be noted, can readily be folded without interfering with the material supported in the bag 11, since the folding of the legs of the stand close the open end of the bag.
While I have described my invention in connection with one specific embodiment, it will be obvious that various structural changes might be made without departure from the spirit of my invention. It will be understood therefore that I contemplate all such changes in structure as come within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. A sewing stand comprising a folding frame provided with removable rigidifying brace members, means exerting spring pressure against said frame to hold said brace members in their normal operative position but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, and a bag removably supported on said brace members.

A sewing stand comprising a frame provided with removable side braces, spring means for holding said braces in their normal operative position but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, and a bag provided with means for embracing said braces, whereby said bag is removably sus pended between said braces.
3. A sewing stand comprising a frame provided with removable side braces, spring means for holding said braces in their normal operative position but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, anda bag provided with hems open at their ends to receive said braces, whereby said bag is removably supported between said braces.
4. A sewing stand comprising a frame made up of cross legs at opposite ends of pockets the stand, means providing pivots at the points of intersection of the legs so as to permit the legs to be folded together or spread apart as desired, removable side braces extending from the legs at one end of the frame to corresponding legs at the other end, spring means associated with said pivot means adapted to exert pressure against said legs to hold said side braces in their normal operative position, but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, and a bag provided with hems open at their ends to receive said side braces, whereby the bag is removably suspended between said braces.
5. A sewing stand comprising a frame made up of crossed legs at opposite ends of the stand, a rigidifying member extending through the legs to provide pivots for the legs, whereby the legs may be folded together or spread apart, as desired, removable side braces extending from the legs at one end of the frame to corresponding legs at the other end, spring means associated with said rigidifying member adapted to exert pressure againt said legs to hold said side braces in their normal operative position, but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, a bag adapted to be suspended between said braces, the end margins of said bags being provided with straps adapted to limit the spreading movement of the legs.
6. A sewing stand comprising a frame made up of cross legs at opposite ends of the stand, a rigidifying member extending through the legs to provide pivots for the legs, whereby said legs may be folded together or spread apart as desired, removable side braces extending from the legs at one end of the frame to corresponding legs at the other end, spring means associated with said rigidifying member adapted to exert pressure against said legs, to hold said side braces in their normal operative position, but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, a bag adapted to be suspended between said braces, the end margins of said bag being hemmed, and straps extending through said hems adapted to limit the spreading of said legs; the length of said straps being normally less than the width of the bag, so that the end margins of the bag will present a shirred effect when the said straps are taut.
