The tension straps 30 are preferably, though not necessarily, slightly shorter than the end hem so that the end hem will present a slightfullness or shirred effect when the sewing stand is in its opened position. The side made slightly longer than the space between the legs 16-16, so that both side margins of the bag will present'a crimped or shirred effect when the said hems are fitted over the side braces 12 and 13.

The end of the cloth along the hem 27 is preferably folded up and stitched as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2, to provide a row of pockets for holding the sewing material.

In applying or removing the sewing bag, the legs at one end are forced outwardly as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 5. With the legs in this position the removable braces 12 and 13 may be readily removed from the sockets 25 formed in the upper end of the legs. The side braces when in their operative position are held firmly by reason of the tension exerted by the springs 13 and 14 upon the legs 16-16. The stand, it will be noted, can readily be folded without interfering with the material supported in the bag 11, since the folding of the legs of the stand close the open end of the bag.

While I have described my invention in connection with one specific embodiment, it will be obvious that various structural changes might be made without departure from the spirit of my invention. It will be understood therefore that I contemplate all such changes in structure as come within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A sewing stand comprising a folding frame provided with removable rigidifying brace members, means exerting spring pressure against said frame to hold said brace members in their normal operative position but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, and a bag removably supported on said brace members.

2. A sewing stand comprising a frame provided with removable side braces, spring means for holding said braces in their normal operative position but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, and a bag provided with means for embracing said braces, whereby said bag is removably sus pended between said braces.

3. A sewing stand comprising a frame provided with removable side braces, spring means for holding said braces in their normal operative position but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, anda bag provided with hems open at their ends to receive said braces, whereby said bag is removably supported between said braces.

4. A sewing stand comprising a frame made up of cross legs at opposite ends of pockets the stand, means providing pivots at the points of intersection of the legs so as to permit the legs to be folded together or spread apart as desired, removable side braces extending from the legs at one end of the frame to corresponding legs at the other end, spring means associated with said pivot means adapted to exert pressure against said legs to hold said side braces in their normal operative position, but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, and a bag provided with hems open at their ends to receive said side braces, whereby the bag is removably suspended between said braces.

5. A sewing stand comprising a frame made up of crossed legs at opposite ends of the stand, a rigidifying member extending through the legs to provide pivots for the legs, whereby the legs may be folded together or spread apart, as desired, removable side braces extending from the legs at one end of the frame to corresponding legs at the other end, spring means associated with said rigidifying member adapted to exert pressure againt said legs to hold said side braces in their normal operative position, but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, a bag adapted to be suspended between said braces, the end margins of said bags being provided with straps adapted to limit the spreading movement of the legs.

6. A sewing stand comprising a frame made up of cross legs at opposite ends of the stand, a rigidifying member extending through the legs to provide pivots for the legs, whereby said legs may be folded together or spread apart as desired, removable side braces extending from the legs at one end of the frame to corresponding legs at the other end, spring means associated with said rigidifying member adapted to exert pressure against said legs, to hold said side braces in their normal operative position, but yieldable to permit said braces to be removed, a bag adapted to be suspended between said braces, the end margins of said bag being hemmed, and straps extending through said hems adapted to limit the spreading of said legs; the length of said straps being normally less than the width of the bag, so that the end margins of the bag will present a shirred effect when the said straps are taut.

7. In a sewing stand, crossed legs at opposite ends of a stand, a centrally disposed bar extending through the legs at their intersection, and providing a pivot whereby the legs may be folded together or spread apart as desired, removable bracemembers, spring pockets at the intersection of said legs, springs at the ends of said centrally disposed bar adapted to seat in said spring so as to exert pressure againt said legs to hold said removable braces in their operative positions, and a bag provided with means for engaging said removable braces so as to be suspended between them.

8. In a sewing stand, cross legs at opposite ends of the stand, a centrally disposed bar extending through the legs at their intersection, providing a pivot whereby the legs may be folded together or spread apart as desired, removable brace members, spring pockets at the intersection of said legs,

springs at the ends of said centrally disposed bar adapted to seat in said spring pocket so as to exert pressure against said legs to hold said removable braces in their operative positions, and a bag provided with marginal hems adapted to receive said removable braces so as to be suspended between them,

and provided with tension straps along the end margins of the bag adapted to limit the spreading movement of said legs.
