Description

Sept. 2 1924.
J. D. GOODRUM HAIR HOLDER Filed Oct. 22 1923 Patented Sept. 2, 1924.
SJNITED STATES JOHN D. GOODRUM, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
HAIR HOLDER.
Application filed October 22, 1923. Serial No. 669,984.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN D. GoonnUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Hair Holder, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a hair holder.
One object of the invention is to provide a holder of the character described specially designed for application to the human head for holding the hair firmly in position so that the same may be cut or bobbed; the holder is particularly useful in cutting or bobbing long hair, and is designed to hold long hair in position so as to obtain a uniform cut.
Another object of the invention is to provide a clamp-like holder which may be readily adjusted to heads of difierent sizes, and which is yieldable so as to not be uncomfortable.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention has particular relation to certain novel features of construction, operation, and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a plan view of the holder.
Figure 2 shows a side view; and
Figure 3 shows a side View thereof applied, as in use.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the crown bridge, which is a long rectangular metallic strap. Side clamps 2, 2, are hinged to opposite edges of this bridge, and their upper ends extend above the bridge, and interposed between said upper ends there is the pressure spring 3. In general contour, the side clamps are arcuate to correspond to the contour of the head, and their lower ends are extended, each way, laterally to clamp against and hold the hair on the sides of the head firmly in position.
There is a curved strap at having its upper end adjustably secured to the rear end of the bridge 1 by means of the adjusting set screw 5. Rear arcuate clamps 6, 6, are
hinged to the edges of the holder bar 7, at its lower end. These clamps 6 are of a design to clamp around the posterior part of the head on each side, and their rear ends are extended, and have the pressure spring 8 interposed between them to hold said clamps yieldingly against the head. The upper end of the holder bar 7 is adjustably secured to the lower end of the strap 4: by means of the adjusting set screw 9.
There is an anterior arcuate clamp 10, de signed to fit around the forehead, and formed with an integral arcuate anterior strap 11, adjustably attached to the front end of the bridge 1 by means of the adj usting set screw 12.
If desired, the inner sides of the clamps 2 and 6 may be toothed, as shown in Figure 1 to hold the device more securely in place.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described, including arcuate front and rear head clamps adjustable toward and from each other and having their ends free, arcuate side clamps having free ends, and means for holding said rear and side clamps yieldingly against the head of the wearer.
2. A device of the character described, including a bridge, an arcuate front clamp attached to said bridge, rear head clamps attached to said bridge, side head clamps attached to said bridge, means holding said rear and side clamps yieldingly against the head of the wearer.
3. A device of the character described including a bridge, an arcuate front. clamp attached to said bridge, rear head clamps at tached to said bridge, side head clamps at tached to said bridge, means holding said rear and side clamps yieldingly against the head of the wearer, and means for adjusting said front and rear clamps toward and from each other.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN D. GOODRUM.
