Description
Patented Aug. 26, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM F. BUSCHARDT, OF BALTIMORE, MARYLAND.
CLIP.
Application led June 2,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM F. BUSCH- Ann'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at. Baltimore, in the county of Baltimore City and State of Maryland, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clips, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a clip for holding an address tag to the package or object to be shipped.
Another object of the invention is to provide a tongue for engaging the tag and the cover of the package.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, il-
lustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view of the clip.
Figures 2 and 3 are detail views showing how the clip is used.
Figures 1- and 5 are views of a modification.
As shown in these views the clip is formed of a blank which is composed of parts 1 and 2, separated by the notches 3. A tongue 11 is formed in part 2 by making a substantially V-shaped cut in said part. In using the device the part 1 is permanently attached to the card or tag A by punching a hole in said part which will force parts of the metal through the tag, this metal being turned over to clinch the tag between itself and the part 1. This will leave a hole 5 in part 1 which is adapted to receive the tongue 4t when the part 2 is bent over upon the part 1 with the wrapping or cover B of the pack- Ill 1922. Serial N0. 565,386.
age between itself and part 1. The tongue 4 is then bent down and as said tongue passes through the wrapping and cover it will securely hold the card or tag t0 the package. The device will be permanently connected with the card or tag by upsetting the metal made by the punch which forms the hole 5 on the reverse side of the card. Thus the tag is securely fastened to the package or object without the use of strings or the like.
Figures 4 and 5 show a modified form of clip in which a tongue 6 is formed on the part 1 so that this part can be detachably connected with the tag by placing said tonguel through the eye in the tag and bending it over. Part 2 is then bent over until its tongue passes through the eye in the tag and then said tongue is bent into engagement with part 1 so that the tag and a part of the cover is held between the two parts of the clip.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that. I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A clip of the class described formed from a blank having notches at the centers of its side edges so as to facilitate folding of the blank at the center, one-half of the clip having a hole therein forming a tongue which is adapted to be bent over to hold the clip to a card and the` other half having a V- shaped tongue punched therefrom to engage the hole when one half of the clip is bent over upon the other half to hold the tag on the package.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
VILLIAM F. BUSCHARDT.
