1,505,482 J- B. MORROW HEAT DEFLECTOR Filed Sept. 20. 1923 I M ii 'ATTORNEY Patented Aug. 19, 1924.
HEAT DEFLECTOB.
Application filed September 20, 1923. Serial No. 663,771.
T all whom it may concern.
Be it known that JAMES B. MORROW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, has invented certain new and useful Improvements in Heat Deflectors, of
which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improved heat deflector particularly applicable to oil heaters.
The object of my invention is to provide a deflector which may be readily detached from a permanently secured fixture on the heater, and which may be readily tipped to either side, thus deflecting the heat to the side desired. 7
In the annexed drawing in which my invention is illustrated:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of my deflector secured to a heater.
Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary transverse sectional view of my deflector secured to a heater.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the mount-- ing pin partly in section.
Referring more particularly to the drawing. the numeral 1 indicates a heater of any well known type which has the usual type of top 2. A rod 3 is secured within my deflecting plate 4 and is provided with a suitable handle 5 at the top thereof to enable the heater to be carried about. A hollow fastening member 6 extends into the top 2 from the bottom upwardly, and a nut 7 is screwed upon the member 6 against the top 2, thus holding the fastening member securely in place. The nut 7 is cup-shaped with diverging walls, the purpose of which wig be further described.
her 6 and is threaded at the bottom, which threads engage suitable threads within the fastening member. A head 9 is formed on pin 8 extends into the fastening mem the pin 8 and is adapted to rest on the top of the member 6. A bolt 10 extends through the head 9 and through the bottom of the rod 3, thus pivoting the deflector 4 to the pin 8. The rod 3 fits tightly within the head 9 so that the deflector 4 will remain in any position in which it is placed, the maximum amount of tipping being determined by the diverging walls of the nut 7 That is, the rod 3 engages said walls and prevents any further tipping of the deflector 4.
The deflector may be removed from the heater by unscrewing the pin 8 from the member 6, said member and nut remaining on the stove.
Having described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination with a heater, having a top, of a deflecting plate, a tilting rod secured to said plate. a hollow fastening member secured to said top, a pin secured within said fastening member, and a bolt extending through said pin and said rod.
2. The combination with a heater, having 66 a top, of a deflecting plate, a tilting rod secured to said plate, a hollow fastening member secured to said top, a pin secured within said fastening member, and a bolt extending through said' pin and said rod, and a nut 7 adapted to screw upon said fastening member, said nut surrounding the rod and adapted to limit the tilting of said rod.
3. The combination with a heater having a top, of a fastening member extending into said top, a pin threaded in said fastening member, a head on said pin adapted to rest on said fastening member, a cup shaped nut threaded on said fastening member, a deflector plate, a rod secured to said deflector plate, and a handle on the top of said rod, said rod being pivoted to said pin.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES B. MORROW.
