To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GUsTAvn HOLMES, a citizen of Finland residing at Stockett; in the county of Cascade and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas Generators, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in gas generators'for miners lamps. One object is to provide a simple and practical agitator adapted to be attached to standard lamps.

With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described. pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this "application and in which- Figs. 1, 2 and 3 are views of the agitator fork.

Fig. 4 is a sectional view of a lamp provided with my attachment.

Fig. 5 is a view of the hand disc employed.

The reference numeral 1 denotes the Water chamber. 2 the threaded stem and 3 the water tube of a carbide lamp. To the stem I attach my cup 4 in the usual manner, said cup being provided with the threaded stem 5 and adapted to carry carbide 6. Centrally of the base of the cup a threaded perforation is formed to admit the screw 7 which at oneend is made fast to the agitator fork 8 disposed inside the cup 4, said fork being so shaped that when the screw 7 is turned in one direction it will seat closely upon the base of the cup and when it is turnedin the 1' opposite direction it will be spaced thereabove. I

Outside the cup and threaded upon the screw is the nut 9 and washer 10, a hand disc 11 formed centrally with a square perforation 12 being adapted to receive the outer end of the screw 7, which is here square in cross section, so that rotation. of the hand disc in one or the other direction will rotate the screw- When the hand disc is rotated alternately in opposite directions the fork 8 is turned and raised or lowered within thecup 4 and the carbide thereby thoroughly agitated. The nut 9 renders the cup water tight when the fork 8 is in raised position.

VVhatis claimed is p In a gas generator, a cup havinga threaded perforation in its base, a screw disposed in the said perforation, a fork carried by said screw and disposed within said cup, a nut upon said screw and ahandle for actuating said screw whereby said fork is rotated and raised and lowered relative to the cup base.
