To all whomit may concern:

Be it known that I, ALBIN L. THORNTON, a citizen of the United States, and resident of El Paso, in the county of El Paso and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Fastening and Attaching Dev-ices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a combined losspreventing and fastening means for pins, badges, and the like. j

Briefly stated an important object of this invention is to provide a combined loss-pre venting and attaching device consisting preferably of a pair of spaced parallel pins attached to the end portions of an object at opposite sides of a longitudinal center of the same, so that when the object is applied, the tilting of the same is positively prevented.

A further objectis to provide a combined loss-preventing and object attaching device in which the adjacent portions of the pins overlap and are extended outwardly so that the same cannot be accidentally disconnected from a garment or the like, or accidentally engage the flesh of the wearer.

A further object is to provide a combined loss-preventing and object attaching device which is of highly simplified construction, durable in use, and cheap to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the drawing wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates, a badge or the like, and which as clearly illustrated in Figure 2 is provided on the rear side with a pair of pins 6. The pins are more or less illustrated in elevation and are attached by soldering or other suitable means to the end portions of the article or object 5. The drawing illustrates that the rear portions of the pins 6 are provided with what might be said to be shoulders 7, by means of which the withdrawal of the'pins from engagement with a piece of cloth is facilitated. In other words, the short branch of each L-shaped pin 6 is inclined so that the material will freely slide on each longitudinally extending branch of the pin.

In carrying out the invention thepins 6 are secured to the object 5 at opposite sides of the longitudinalcenter as illustrated in Figure 4, so that tilting of the device when applied to a garment orthe like is absolutely prevented. H p

Also the terminal portions of the pins are curved outwardly in the direction of the object or article 5 so as to cooperate with the object 5 in preventing the accidental re- 7 moval of the cloth engaged from the pin. Also, by curving the terminal portions of the pins 6 toward the object 5, the terminal portions of the pins will be prevented from engaging the flesh of the wearer. Of course, the pins in addition to being curved in the direction of the article 5 are pointed.

It will be seen that the pin forming the subject matter of this application may be quickly and conveniently applied to a garment or other object and when in place is prevented from loss. No pivoted pins, latches, slides or other movable fastening devices form any part of this invention, or in any way cooperate with any 9 of the parts. Therefore, the device is rendered extremely durable and eflicient and the need of frequent repair or close attention is positively overcome.

If desired the invention may be used as viewed in Figure 6, wherein it is shown that a belt 10 may be extended between the pins 6 and the object 5, and if desired the chain of a watch may be secured to the object 5 so as to prevent the loss of the we watch. The shape of the object 5 may bear any suitable indicia or ornamental matter.

Figure 3 illustrates that the material 12 may be crowded onto one of the pins and subsequently a portion of the material may 05 be moved onto the other pin so that the material is engaged at spaced points and loss of the pin is absolutely prevented.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is 1. A device of the character specified comprising a body, and a pair of pins a longitudinal center of the object, so that the object is held in a predetermined position. Y

3. The combination with an object, of fastening pins: extending longitudinally of the object at opposite sides of a longitudinal center of the same and arrangedin overlapping rel-ation, said pins being rigidly v secured to the, object adjacentopposite ends thereof.

4. The combination with an object, of fastening pins extending longitudinally of the object at o-pposite sides of a longitudinal center of the same and arranged in overlapping'relation, said pins being provided with attaching branches secured to the object rigidly and having their outer edges inclined to facilitate the removal of the pins from an article engaged.

5. The combination with an object, of fastening pins extending longitudinally of the object at opposite sides of a longitudinal center of the same and arranged in overlapping relation, said pins being provided with attaching branches secured to the object rigidly and having their outer edges inclined to facilitate th removal of the pins from an article engaged, and the overlapped terminal portions of the pins being pointed and directed toward the object.

6. An article of the character described comprising an object, and a pair of pins extending longitudinally of the object at opposite sides of the longitudinal center of the same and having their rear portions extended laterally and rigidly secured to the object, the terminal portions of the pins being overlapped.
