Description
ELASTIC HOSIERY SUPPORTER Filed March 6, 1922 SS ATTORNEY- WlTNE I v Patented Aug. 5, 19242..
UNITE STAT EDWARD HEaUSER, 3F NETN "YORK. N.
ELAsTIG HOSIEBY S'U Application filed March 6, 1522. Serial No. 541,379.
hose supporters.
The primary object of this invention is the provision of a supporter so constructed as to prevent runs in the hose, which are so often caused by the present form of garters.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a' supporter consisting of a strip of elastic with means for adjusting the length and a novel form of clamp secured to each end thereof. One clamp being capable of engagement with the corset, waist belt, brassiere or some garment of the wearer, and the other of said clamps adapted to engage the hose at the top thereof.
Another object is to provide a novel form of clamp capable of securely holding the stocking in position at all times. thereby eliminating all possibility of slipping.
Another object is to provide a supporter which not only involves simplicity, cheapness and durability but one which may be worn with great comfort.
With these and other objects in view which will be more apparent as the nature, purpose and use of the invention is better understood from the following description and claim taken in connection with the aceompanying drawings, in which Figure 1, is a perspective view showing my improved supporter as applied to the wearer.
Figure 2, is a front elevation thereof.
Figure 3, is an edge view partly in section.
Figure 4c, is a detail view of the same.
Figure 5, is a front view showing a slight modification.
Figure 6, is a view showing a further modification.
Figure 7, is a rear view of the clamp showing a slightly modified form.
Heretofore, great difficulty has been experienced in preventing runs in hose, due to the tightness of the garter and the style of clamp used. This has proven to be very costly and it is'thought that with the form of supporter about to be described, the above diiiiculties will be avoided.
Referring more particularly to the pre ferred form of supporter shown in Figures 1, 2, 3 and i, the numeral indicates my improved supporter as a whole, which consists of a strip of elastic 11, to which is secured my novel form of clamps 12 and 13. The clamp 12 is stitched to the elastic 11, and intended for clamping engagement with the corset 14 as shown, but the same may be fastened to a waist belt, brassiere or some other suitable garment of the wearer. The clamp 13 is carried by a loop formed in the elastic and is capable of en gagement with the top of a stocking 15. buckle 16 may be used for adjusting the length of the supporter.
For the reason that both the clamps 12 and 13 are identical in construction, it is thought only necessary to describe one of them. Each clamp comprises a Ushaped body portion 1'? having pivoted thereto a suitable means 18 for connection with the elastic. A. strip of spring metal 19 has one end secured to the U-shaped body member 17, the free end of the spring 19 having a cover of thin ribbed rubber 20. The rubber covering 20 has a plurality of projections 21 thereon. A lever 22 is pivoted at 23 to the outside of the U-shaped body portion 17 the lever 22 is provided with a curved oii'set portion 24, for engagement with the free end of the spring 19. It will be seen that by manipulation of the lever 22, a clamping action may be set up between the spring 19 and the back wall 25 of the U- shaped member 17. By providing the ribbed rubber covering over the free end of the spring and forming the projections there on, the possibility of any slipping action between the clainp and the garment is reduced to a minimum. It will be seen that I have provided a supporter which may be detach ably secured to a corset or the like, but if desired this end may be permanently attached thereto by stitching the elastic to the garment thereby only using one clamp.
In Figure 5, I have shown a slightly modified form in which one clamp is used for engagement with the corset and two clamps for attachment to the hose.
Figure 6, shows a further modification in which the preferred form'is used, but to which is attached an ordinary circular garter 26. By this arrangement there is provided a double supporter.
If desired, a clamp 27 as shown in Figure 7, may be provided with a backing of fabric 28, thereby preventing any metal from co1ning in contact with the skin of the wearer.
Having described what I consider to be the best embodiment of my invention, 1 wish it to be understood that changes and alterations which come within the claim may be resorted to when so desired.
What is claimed as new is A hose supporter clamp comprising a substantially U-shaped body portion having one arm slotted, a strip of spring metal having one end secured to the oppositearm and being bent to position the opposite end of said strip adjacent the terminals of the body portion, a lever pivotally secured to the slotted arm, a curved ofi set portion formed on the lever and extending through the slot to engage the strip for the actuation thereof, and a covering provided for a portion of the strip as and for the purposespecified.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
EDWARD HAUSER.
