Application filed August 31, 1.923. Serial No. 660,383.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, TWILLIAM F. Darn wEILnR, a citizen of the United States, resid-- ing at Upland, in the county of San Bernardino and btate of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belts, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to belts, and is designed'primarily for the use of linemen, but it is to be understood that a belt in accordance with this invention can be employed for any purposes wherein it is found applicable, and the invention has for its object to -provide,.in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a belt including a supporting element, and a coupling element which is adapted to be secured to the waist of a lineman, and is employed for coupling the support-ing element to the lineman and with said coupling element including a main and auxiliary section, the vformer having the supporting ele ment detachably connected therewith `and the latter slidably connected to and extending through the main section and completely encircling the waist of the lineman and acting as a safety means to maintain the Vbelt connected to the lineman if the main`section should break, under `such conditions giving the lineman ample warning thereby avoiding accidents. n
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a belt designed primarily for the use of linemen and which includes an adjustable supporting element to provide for reducing or increasingthe Vlength thereof and further providing the said element with a wear reducing member abutting when the element is in supporting position against the object. to which the element is connected, thereby `reducing wear on the elemnt to a minimum, under such conditions increasing the life of such element.
lA further'objectiofA the inventionjis to` provide, in a manner as hereinafter set,` forth, a belt for the use of linemen, including a coupling element formed 4of a main and an auxiliary section and with the auxiliary section provided with means to lsupport and connect to the wearer `of the beltfsuch tools as are necessary to be used by the lineman.
Further obj cts of the invention areto provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a belt for the use of linemen', which is comparatviely simple in its construction and ar rangement, adjustable, unusually strong, durable, thoroughly efiicient and convenient in its use, readily assembled and comparatively inexpensive.
Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but itis to be understood that changes, variations and modifications canbe resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several .views:`
Figure l is a perspective view illustrating the adaptation of a belt in accordance with this invention, when worn and in supporting position.
Figure 2 is top plan view of the belt and further illustrating the same connected with a pole.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary view of the supporting element, illustra-ting the wear member forming a part thereof.
Figure .4; is a section on line /l-4, Figure Figure 5 is a fragmentary view in elevation,.of` one end of the main section of the coupling element.
Referring to the drawings in detail, a belt in accordance with this invention comprises a supporting element and a coupling element and with the former having means for detachably connecting it with the latter, and the said supporting section comprises a substantially elongated strap 1 of any suitable material, preferably heavy leather, and of the desired thickness.` One end of the'` strap l is bent upon itself as at 2 and riveted together, as at to provide a loop et, in which is arranged a roller 5', mounted on a pintle 6, secured to the arms/, of a yoke 8, having formed, integral therewith the hook-shaped Section5) of a snaphook. ,Pivot-ally connected to the section 9, as at 1,0, is' the snap ll which associates with the bill l2 of the-section I9 for the purpose of maintaining the snap hook closed.
The other end of the belt l is bent upon itself and the overlapping parts secured together toV provide a loop 13, which isemployedffor connecting a buckle 14 with the belt ,1. Intermediate its ends, the belt 1 is folded upon itself to form an outer portion 15 and an innerpoition 1G; and the bend between the folds constitutes a loop 17 for connecting to the belt 1, a snap hooli 18 of a construction similar to the snap hook hereinbefore referred to. 4The loop 17 is maintained closed by a slide 19 mounted on the portionsr15-and16ofzthebelt. 'The portion 16 ofthe belt carries tlie'buclrle V14 and the latter in connection with the perforations :20 7formed'in the belt 1,4provides means for adjusting thelen'gth of'thesup- Jporting' element,"and'thesliide 1 9 whenthe length of the supporting element: is adjusted maintains' the loop 17l closed.
`The supporting element ifuither `includes awear member, which: isconstructed of fany suitable material, preferably leat/lier, lis
