PLOWSHAR-E.
Application filed June 8,
NICOL, a subject of the King of Great Brit ain, and residing at Huntingdon, in the Province of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented al new and useful Improvement in a Plowshare, of'which the following is the specification.
The invention relates to a plowshare as described in the present specication and shown in the accompanying drawings that form part of the same.
The invention consists essentially of the novel features pointed out broadly and specifically in the claims for novelty following a description containing an explanation in detail of an acceptable form of the invention.
The objects of the invention are to reduce the expense incident to the renewal of the penetrating point of the plow and to effect an adjustment of the implement according to the stature of the operator without resorting to replacements or shop work; to fa. cilitate the operation of plowing with Walle ing, gang or tractor plows; to reinforce the implement where most needed and thereby reduce the breakages; and to provide a du rable plowshare formed to carry a replaceable digger.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a gang plow, showing the plowshare constructed according to this invention.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a walking plow showing this invention in its construction.
Figure 3 is a perspective detail of the landside plate showing the outer side.
Figure 4 is a perspective detail of the landside plate, showing the inner side.
Figure 5 is an inside elevation of the landside plate.
Figure 6 is a perspective detail of the landside running plate.
Figure 7 is a vertical and cross sectional view of the landside plates assembled and digging bar in its adjusting slide.
Figure 8 is a sectional and plan view showing the feather base, adjusting slide full, and landside plate in sect-ion.
Figure 9 is a perspective detail of the digging bar.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the various figures.
Referring to the drawings, the landside 1923. Serial No. 644,149.
platel is formed with a reduced upper end 2 and. a yreducedlower end 3 and tapers in thickness in the direction of the front end, where it is reinforced by a rib 4 extending into the feather base 5, through which the rectangular bar hole 6 extends. The adjusting and parallel slide brackets 7 and 8 are secured through the lugs 9 and 10 to the inner surface of the landside plate 1 and extend in an upwardly inclined direction in alignment with the upper and lower wall surfaces of the bar hole 6 respectively.
The brackets 7 and 8 stand out from the plate surface, leaving a considerable clearance, being held to that position by said lugs 9 and 10, and these brackets are pierced at intervals with the bolt holes 11 respectively.
The feather 16 is shaped much the same as any plow share feather, but has the slot 17 cut away from the inner point side to permit the digging bar 12 to pass through to its operating position.
The feather 16 is secured to the feather base 5 by the screws 18 and the landside running plate 19 is secured by the bolts 2O and fills in the lower reduced end 8 of the landside plate 1, and in thickness in both bottom and side plates tapers from the rear to the front.
rThe mould board or plate 21 is secured to the front of the landside plate 1 over the rib 4 and to the feather 5 by the screws 22 and meets the reduced inner end 23 of the feather.
ln installing this plowshare in gang or tractor plows they are rigidly held by the curved arms 24 and the implement operated as usual though at any time the adjustable point may be moved forwardly until worn out and then exchanged.
lny a walking plow the draft beam 25 is secured to the upper reduced end 2 and the handles 26 to the beam and mould plate as customary.
been removable;r points I do :not'knowfy any plow similarly'constructed orl arranged.
What I claim isz- A plowshare comprisnga landsideplete 5 having a reduced upper end and a reduced lower end and a pierced boss at the lowerl front end forming a feather base; said plate tapering in longitudinal section from rear to front7 a slotted feather secured to said 1U baSe,` a'f'rnould; board, ai runnngf plate tap'red in thickness"fr0ni-frear fto fronty and removably secu-red to ssaid V'reduced lower e1id,-p'arallel@ brackets l"secured to 'the :inner surface of said landside plate and inclined longitudinally and forming a bar slide in longitudinal alignment With said pierced lug and a digging bar adjustably secured in said slide and pierced lug.
Signedzat lVIont-'realthis 26th day of May, 1923.
