TOILET CASE Filed June 4. 1923 MWM 5% Patented June 17, 1924.
UNITED STATES- GEORGE LEE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINO'ISL TOILET CASE.
Application filed June 4,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, G ORGE LEE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Toilet Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this: specification.
My invention relates particularly to portable toilet cases such as are carried about by ladies although not limited to this use alone.
The main object of the invention resides in the provision of a compact, convenient, orderly, and clean toilet case which will contain all of the materials usually desired to be contained in a portable toilet case.
l/Vith the above object in view my inven tion consists in certain features of novelty in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts by which the said object and certain other objects, hereinafter appearing, are effected, all as fully described with reference to the accompanying drawing and more particularly pointed out in. the claims. 2 i
In the said drawing- Figure 1 is a central vertical section of a toilet case embodying my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan View with the up per inner and outer covers, hereinafter described, broken away.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view with the lower inner and outer covers, hereinafter described, broken away.
Like characters of reference indicate like parts in the several views. f In the said drawings 1 designates a cylindrical body member into respective ends of which are forced-and secured flanged opposite wall members 2 forming with the member 1 a hollow body. One of the members 2 has an outwardly facing central compartment 3 formed inwardly therefrom, and the other wall member2 has a plurality of ou-twardly facing compartments 4,5, 6, and
7 formed inwardly therefrom. The wall member 2 having the compartment 3 formed therein has aplurality of upstanding projections 8 struck therefrom and spaced around theicompartment 3.
A closure member, comprising a fiat an- ,nula-r member 9 and a screen 11 extending 1923. Serial No. 643,3 7.
across the opening of the member 9 and secured to the edges of the'opening' and forming' a reticulated opening through the closure member, is releasably secured to the body by engagement of the outer edge of the annular member 9 'withthe ro'jec tions 8 and overlies the respective wall mem- I her 2 and the compartment 3 thereof. This closure member forms a powder receptacle with the compartment 3 andthe said reticulated opening provides the receptacle with a reticulated openingl Gomplexion'po'wder' 12 Ina-y be placed in the compartment'3 by re-jv moving the closure'member, and a bail 13 1S pivotally secured at its opposite ends to the annular member 9 so that the closure member may be conveniently removed and replaced, the bail being arranged to lie against the outer surface of the annular member 9 and to extend around outwardly of the opening thereof when in normal posit-ion as shown. An inner cover 14 is hinged at "15 to the body and is adapted when in closed position to overlie the closure'memher and is provided with an outwardly e ncave central portion 16 overlying the reticulated opening of the closure member. The I cover 14 is adapted when in closed position i to retain a powder puff 17 over and closing tributed over the one surface thereof through the reticulated opening so that the puff is charged without the powder spreading about. The convenience of this arrangement is'obvious.
Another inner cover 18 is hinged at 19 to the body and is adapted when in closed position tooverlie the other wall member 2, having the compartments 4:, 5, 6, and 7 formed therein, andto overlie these compartments'. The compartments 1, 5, 6,and 7 are designed to:. receive respectively a quantity of facial cream 21, apiece of complexion rouge 22, a lip stick, not shown, and
a perfume bottle, notshown, and the cover 18, is adapted when in closed position to retain the lip stick and perfume bottle the respective com artments 6 and 7, and to retain a rouge pa 23 over and against the c rouge 22 in the compartment 5. Thus these articles are retained in an orderly fashion when this cover is closed.
A pair of flanged outer covers 24: are hinged respectively at 25 and 26 to the body and are adapted when in closed position to overlap respective ends of the body and to overlie respective inner covers 14 and 18. These outer covers are releasably secured in closed position in a usual manner by means of nibs 27, formed on the body, engaging recesses 28, formed on the flanges of the covers opposite the hinge portions thereof. Mirrors 29 are mounted on the insides of respective outer covers 24, and the central portion of one mirror engages the inner cover 14, and the other mirror engages a nib 30 formed on the inner cover 1 8 when the covers are closed whereby to prevent movement of the inner covers out of closed position when the outer covers are closed. The mirrors 29 lie between respective inner and outer covers when they are closed and are separated from the articles carried in the case by the inner covers so that they remain clean and ready for use. Upon the opening of either outer cover the mirror thereof may be used and the materials contained in thecase are accessible by opening the respective inner cover. 7
While I have herein shown and'particularly described the preferred embodiment of my invention I do-not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction shown as changes may readily be made without de parting from the spirit of my invention, but
having thus described my'invention, I claim' as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent the following 1. A toilet case including a powder receptacle provided with a reticulated opening, an innercover hinged to the receptacle and adapted when in closed position to overlie said opening and to retain a powder put? over and closing said opening, an outer cover hinged to the receptacle. and adapted when 1n closed pos1t1on to overlie the inner cover whereby to prevent movement of the inner cover out of closed position, releasable means for retaining the outer cover in closed position, and a :mirror arranged to lie between the covers when they are closed.
2. A toilet case including a powder receptac1eprovided with a reticulated opening, an inner cover hinged to the receptacle and provided with an inwardly facing enclosure portion overlying said opening and adapted toretain a powder pufi' over and closing saidopening when the cover is in closed position, an'outer cover hinged to the receptacle and adapted when in closed posi-' tion to overlie. the inner cover whereby to prevent movement of the inner cover out of closedposition, releasable means for retaining theouter cover in closed position, anda mirror mounted on the inside of the outer cover. 7
3. A toilet case including a powder receptacle comprising two separable parts, one

5. A toilet case including a powder receptacle comprising two separable parts and means releasably securing them together, one of said parts being provided with a reticulated opening therethrough, an inner cover hinged to the other part of the receptacle and adapted when in closed position to overlie and retain a powder puff over and closing said opening, an outer cover hinged to said other part of the receptacle and adapted when in closed position to overlie the inner cover whereby to prevent movement of the inner cover out of closed position, releasable means for retaining the outer cover in closed position, and a mirror arranged to lie between the covers when they are closed and mounted on one of the covers.
6. A toilet case including a body having ceptacle therewith and provided with a reticulated opening there-through forming an opening for this receptacle,1nner covers adapted when inclosed position to re- .spectively overhe said closure member and the compartment portion of the other side of the body for retaining a powder puff overand closing said opening and for retaining certain articles in proper relation with certain other coinpartments, outer covers adapted when in closed position to overlie respective inner covers whereby to prevent movement of the inner covers out of closed position, and releasablemeans for retainingthe outer covers in closed position.
