L.. J. JANICKI GARMENT HANGER AND PRESSER -Filed Ma 9, 1923 Patented June 17, 1924 LORENZ JFJANICKI, O'F SCRANTON, PENNSYLVANIA GARMENT HANGER AND PRESSER.
Application filed May 9,
To all whom it may oOncewt:
Be it known that I, LORENZ J. JANIOKI, a citizen of Poland, residing at Scranton, in the county of Lackawanna and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment Hangers and Pressers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment hangers adapted to support both coat and trousers, and it has for an object to provide a novel garment hanger with which are combined means for stretching and pressing the trousers.
For further comprehension of the inven tion, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 of the drawings is a face view of a garment hanger constructed according to my invention, showing the trousers holder in extended position.
Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig, 3 is a like view to Fig. 1 butshowing the trousers holder folded.
Fig. 4 is a fragmentary transverse vertical section, illustrating the means for press ing and stretching the knee portions of the trousers, this view being taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 5.
Fig. 5 is a fragmentary horizontal section on the line 55 of Fig.
As here embodied my improved garment hanger comprises an angular shoulder bar 10 on which a coat may be supported in the usual manner, and to the centre of which is fixed a hook 11 whereby the garment hanger may be suspended. Extending between the ends of the shoulder bar 10 is a horizontal rod 12. This rod 12 supports a novel trousers hanger as follows :Engaged with this rod 12 are a pair of hooks 14 projecting upwardly from the back reach of a wire 15 bent to form a fiat, horizontally disposed loop extending parallel to the rod 12 with its two sides or reaches in close proximity to one another.
Fixed to and extending'downward from opposite ends of this horizontal member are pairs of wires, the respective wires of each pair being arranged one in front of the other and numbered 16 and 17. Mounted 1923. Serial No. 637,886.
on the lower portions of the rear wires 17 are vertically elongated plates 18 which pro ject inwardly toward one another, being lixed to the wires adjacent their outer edges. To holdthese plates in their proper relative. positions lying in a commonplane.
a horizontal bar 20 extends between the wires 17 just above the plates, this bar being engaged with ears 21 projecting'from short sleeves 22 fixed on the wires 17, these sleeves having formed thereon integral lugs 23 to which the plates are fixed by screws or otherwise. The bar 20 overlaps-the ears 21 at its ends and is connected with them by means of headed studs 2 1 fixed in the bar and projecting through longitudinal slots25 in the ears, this connection permitting of the wires 17 being moved toward or away from one another.
The front wires 16 terminate at points just above the plates 18 and have pivoted thereto as at 27 the upper ends of other wires 16 which extend downward-1y below the plates for a distance and have fixed to their lower ends a horizontal'looped member 15 similar to the top member 15. To.
this member 15' is fixed adepending U-bar 28 having a hook 29 slidable on its horizontal reach.
Hinged as at 32 to the outer edges of the plates 18 are otherplatesBS of similar size and shape. These hinged plates 33 carry screws 34; adapted to take into threaded sockets 35 in the fixed plates 18 to clamp the hinged plates to the latter. Extending along the hinged plates 33, adjacent their hinge edges, are grooves 36 in which the wires 16 are accommodated.
In the use of my improved garment hanger the waist of the trousers is engaged in the top loop 15, and the leg bottoms in the lower loop 15, the knee portions passing between the respective pairs of plates 18 and 33, which are clamped together after the trousers have been inserted in place.
The wires at opposite sides of the trousers hanger incline downwardly toward one another at a slight angle and upon the front wires 16 a pair of eyes 40 are slidably mounted, being rigidly united by a horizontal bar 41. This bar 41 is pushed upwardly before the trousers are inserted in place, and after insertion of the trousers the bar is pushed downwardly, moving the respective pairs of plates away from one another and stretching the trousers gripped therebeand the hook 29 engaged with an eye 46 attached to the underside of the bar 10.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by LettersPatent of the United States is as follows I 1. A trousers hanger comprising side and end members, the said side'members each consisting of a pair of rods, clamping plates carried by one rod of each pair for gripping the knee portions of the trousers, and means applied to the other rods for moving the respective side members away from one another. r
2. A trousers hanger comprising side and end members,.the. said side members each consisting of a pair of rods, clamping plates carried by one rod of each pair for gripping the knee portions of the trousers, and means applied to the other rods for moving the respective side members away from one another, said side members being inclined with respect to one another, and said'means consisting of a bar extending between the said rods and freely engaging the latter at its ends.
3. A trousers hanger comprising side and end members, the said s de members each consistin of a air of rods clam in lates D V 7 Z:
carried by one rod of each'pair for gripping the knee portions of the trousers, and means clamped thereagainst, and a flattened loop mounted on the lower ends of the front wires and adapted to engage the bottom of the garment, the said hinged plates having grooves therein to accommodate the lower portions of the said front wires.
5. A garment hanger comprising an upper flattened loop adapted to engage the top of a garment, pairs of wires extending downwardly from the ends of said loop and inclinin toward one another, the respective wires 0' each pair being arranged one in front of the other, thefront wires being longer than the rear wires, plates fixed to the lower ends of the rear wires, other plates hinged to said first plates and adapted to be clampedthereagainst, and a flattened loop mounted on the lower ends of the front wires and adapted to engage the bottom of the garment, the said hinged plates having grooves therein to accommodate the lower portions of the said front wires, said front wires being jointed to permit of their lower portions being swung upwardly, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I have atlixed my signature. I
