In the preferred form of the invention as illustrated and hereinbefore described, the elastic inserts employed have tnbuar edges forming pockets for the stays and are placed in the garment in positions so that these members diverge from the upper edge of the corset toward the lower edge thereof, but it is to be understood that the yielding strip insert members may be constructed With a central elastic portion and inelastic edge portions Which are Woven integrally therein, that is non-elastic edge portions which are non-tubnlar and that the non-elastic edge portions of the inserts may be secured to the garment in Such 'a manner as to provide poc-kets for the stay's, and still furthermore that in Some instances the use of the stays may be entirel dispensed With, the broad purpose of the mvention being to pro- Vide a 'garm'ent with the 'Insert Strips SO made and secured therein as to provide a required stretch in certain parts of the garment When and where a tension is applied Without causing the adjacent parts of the garment to wrinkle.

I claim as my invention:

1. In an apparel garment, an elastic insert strip extending from the 'upper to the lower edges of the garment, there being edge pockets at the sides of the said strip, and sta 's of appreciabiy less Width than the Width of the said pockets inserted therei-n to permit of a lateral self-adjustment of the stays to position in the Said pockets to 'revent the. elastic insert strip from Wrink ing in the use of the garment.

2. In an apparl'garment, a body member, an elastic insert strip extending from the upper *to the loWer edges of the body member and having integral pockets extending along the oppositely disposed longitndina l edges thereof and Stays placed in the said pockets the Width of each pocket being appreciably 'greater than the Width of the stays placed in the same to permit of a selfadwstment of the stays to position in the use of the garment to prevent the elastic stri from Wrinkli'ng, theinner edges of each poc et being *connected by a line of stitching to the a'djacent edge ofa portion of the body of 'the garment.

3. In an apparel garment, a body member. an elastic insert Strip extending from the provided upper to the lower edges of the body member and having integral pockets extending along the oppositely disposed longitudnal edges thereof', and stays Iplaced in the Said pockets, the Width of eac pocket being appreciably greater than the Width of the stays placed in the same to permit of a Selfadjustment of the stays to position in the use of the garment to prevent the elastic Strip from Wrinkling, the inner c lges of each pocket being connected by a line of Stitching to the adjacent edge of a portion Of the body of the garment, and the Said pocket edges of the elastic insert member extending over adjacent` portions of the body Of the garment and the outer edges of the pockets tacked to the body of the garment by lines of stitches.

4. In an apparel garment, a body member, a plurality of elastic strip inserts extending in diverging positions from the uper to the lower edge Of the garment, there eing an elastic insert strip placed for' Wardly of the axillar Section of the garment and a similar Strip placed rearwardly of the axillar pOrtiOn of the garment and each elastic insel't strip having tubular inelastic longitudinal edge Sections forming pockets, and stay members placed in the said pockets Which are appreciably Wider than the stays placed in the same to permit the stays to be Self-adjustable to position in the pockets in the use Of the garment while the Stay members are of difi'ei'ent lengths progressively increasing in length from the ront toward the back of the garment.
