CATALOGUE.
Application led Hay 25,
which not only is bound on opposite sides or edges to provide a proper mailing matter' but to a construction ,wherein one of the bound ends or edges may be torn off for providing two publications having certain relation to each other.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved construction for ubhcations wherein the same is automatical y ready for mailing when completed.
Another object of the invention is to provide a ublication which has a .double b1nding antfwhich, therefore, is capableof tearing into two sections for independent use.;
'A still further object of the inyention is to provide apublication inthe nature of a catalogue or similar publication with Ia large and small section removabl connected together and bearing either t e same subject matter or related subject matter.
In the acompanying drawing-f Figure 1 is an e evation of a publication disclosing 011el embodiment of the invention. Figure 2 is a view similar to Figure 1 but with the publication divided into two parte and each part open somewhat for llustrat in the co-ordination therebetween.
Ifigure 3 discloses a slightly modified form of the invention to that shown in Figure 1:` .e ,Y Figure 4 is a view of the opposite'` side of the page .to that shown in Figure 3. 'i In the accompanying illustration, the invention has been embodied ,in a catalogue though it may be embodied in a booklet or pamphlet or some other form of ublication without departin from the spirit of the invention; and, t erefore, the term' catalo e lis to beunderstood as meaning any sultable booklet, folder, pamphlet or other publication.
` In forming the catalogue' as illustrated,
192e. semi no. :marsa it is Vintended to present a construction which will be acceptable by the postal authorities b merely adding a stamp and a proper ad re'ss. In addition to Gpresenting proper mail matter, itis also intended `to present a catalogue having comparatively large views of articles to be sold with certain identifications ,thereon and "a removable section or end portion having a miniature of the matter presented inthe main catalogue. This 'miniature may be readily placed in a ladys handbag or in a pocket for reference While the large catalogue may be retained at the home of the party receiving the catalogue so as to be ready for reference at anyy time. Y
Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, 1 indicates the mam catalogue and 2 the removable section which is preferably integral with the main catalo ue. In printin the catalogue, the lsection 2 1s printed at t e same time and the various leaves of the catalogue are assembled and secured together by suitable` securing means 3 and 4 at the opposite ends though if desired, they could be secured together at the sides with the section 2 arrangedon the side. However, Whenthe parts are arranged as shown in the accom anyin drawing, the ends are con-` necte toget eryb any suitable securin means which will eave the sides open an consequentlyl, permit .the postal authorities:
to thoroug inspect` the ublication.
In the catalogue shown, iferent articles are presented with certain identification numbers so that when a erson desires to se- -cure any of these artic es they may do soeoY loev
various pictures, numbers and other information on the catalogue l. In addition, the
outside of the sectiorr2 is left principally a blank so as to receive an address 6 while the stamp 7 is preferably arranged near the address 6 andif desired 'may be positioned eitlier ,on the 'catalogue 1 or on the section 2. The weakened line 5 may be perforations orr any other lform of weakening which will ordinarily hold the parts together b`ut 'which' may be readily torn. Arranged rnear the extreme edge of the section 2 is a second weakcned line provided so thatl any of the --pages fthe section 2 may be removed and left W th the storekeeper or used by the customer in Vany way desired.
In addition to having miniatures of the pictures and other matter in the catalogue' l, section 2 may have coupons printed thereon. or the coupons may be provided as a substitute for the miniature representation of catalogue 1, said coupons having certain value in relation to the matter disclosed in the catalogue. For instance, by presenting a coupon from the section 2, the purchaser is allowed a certain discount from articles published in the catalogue. In this way the publisher of the catalogue will know that the catalogue has produced the desired result of calling attention to the goods displayed.
An additional function for the section 2 is v to compel the reciprocant to tear this section oil' of the catalogue 1 in order to properly examine the catalogue. 'When the section 2 lis once torn olf the reciprocant will readily observe that it is substantially a, replica of the catalogue 1 or is a book of coupons or some other 'desirable article Worthy of saving in case the reciprocant desires to purchase any of the goods displayed.
It will be noted that by having the fastening means 3 and 4 on the opposite ends of the catalogue, each part is left with a securing means when the section 2 is removed, namely, the catalogue 1 is still provided with a securing means 3 while section 2 is still provided with a securing means 4. When the section has been removed, two booksor pamphlets are thus formed; one of asize to retain in the home and the other of a size to put in a pocket or handbag. A
In Figures 3 and 4 a modified form of the invention is shown wherein sections 8 and 9 are provided on the side of each page of the catalogue instead ofon the end as shown in Figures 1 and 2. The fastening means 3 and 4 are thereforearranged on the sides instead of the ends of the catalogue and in addition there are two sections 8 and 9 for each leaf which is not true in the structure' shownY in Figure 1.. Section 8 shows on the obverse side as in Fig. 3 the same picture and information found on the obverse side4 ofthe page inthe catalogue and on the reverse side as shown in Fig. 4 certain wording is provided Which will advertise certainfacts and which will make the particular section good as a coupon which will have a certain discount value. Section 9 is a section similar to section 8, but shows on its reverse side the picture shown in the reverse side of the leaf,
Maasai the leaf and at its rear side it shows the advertising matter relating to that figure, while the section 9 shows at the front side the advertisingmatter of the figure sho-wn in the rear of the leaf and at its rear shows aminiature figure of that figure.
By this construction and arrangement a person may tear out section 8 because the person desires to purchase something on the obverse side of the page containing lsaid section and when tearing out this section will not interfere with section 9 which shows on the obverse side of the sheet a miniature of the furniture on said obverse side. In this way, a coupon is provided for each side of each sheet and in addition an independent miniature is provided of the matter advertised on each side of each sheet of the catalogue. Of course, if itis desired, the two sections 8 and9 maybe removed by tearing along the line 10 and the sections retained as one book though preferably the sections are torn apart along the line 11 so that there .will be two books, one book showing coupons and replicas of one page of each leaf of the catalogue and the other showing a couponl and replica of the opposite page of each leave of the catalogue.
