1 Claim.
This invention relates to combined postal coin carriers and advertisements to be embodied in and distributed with a printed publication as means for its circulation.
An object of the invention is to provide an advertising sheet for inclusion with the leaves of a magazine and bound with the magazine leaves so as to be held in place therebetween, and having a detachable portion provided with foldable parts in which to secure a coin, and provided also with means for securing said parts in folded coin-retaining position thus to afford a postal coin carrier.
Another object of the invention is to so construct the device as to afford, with use of a single sheet, perman-ent advertisements and corresponding detachable portions in multiple formation for separate use, thereby to provide a corresponding number of coin carriers.
A further object of the invention is to provide said detachable portions with an adhesive coating along selected areas adjacent certain marginal edges of its foldable parts whereby, upon moistening and folding said parts into operative 25 position, said parts are secured in such position.
And a still further object of the invention is to provide a postal coin carrier formed of a single sheet oi material having foldable parts for enveloping a coin to be mailed upon folding of said parts and securing same in operative position on the sheet, and means for effectively securing said parts after the coin is enveloped i in such position.
' Other objects and advantages of the invention appear in the following description.
An illustrative embodiment ofthe invention is shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
40 Fig. l is a plan View of a publication opened and with the invention shown embodied there- Fig. 2 is a similar plan view with the device constituting the invention shown turned over to expose the opposite or back face thereof;
Fig. 3 is a plan View of one of the detachable portions of the sheet that constitutes, when folded and sealed, a postal coin carrier;
Fig. 4 is another plan view of the detachable portion with foldable lparts thereof positioned to envelope a coin;
Fig. 5 is another plan View showing the position of all of the foldable parts as they appear in readiness to be moved into finally secured po- 55 stion; and
Fig. 6 is another plan view showing the fold-V able parts as they appear when finally secured in place and the coin carrier is in readiness to be mailed.
The illustrative embodiment of the invention 5 consists of a single sheet I of pasteboard adapted to be assembled and bound together with the leaves 2 of a publication, said sheet having an inner portion 3 and a contiguous series of individually separable portions 4, 5, 6 and l, there '10 being periorations made in the sheet toform a tear-line 8 between the inner portion 3 and said separable portions. Also, there is provided a series of perforations made in the sheet to form tear-lines 9, I0 and II located between the adjacent separable portions so that any one of said separable portions may conveniently be detached from the inner portion 3 as well as any adjacent separable portion. Each separable portion 4, 5, E and l adjacent the inner end there- 20 of is scored or creased to provide a fold-line I2 parallel with and spaced apart from the tearline 8, and also convergent scores or creases I3--I4 extend from the outer margins of the corresponding separable portion and meet at their conjunction with the tear-line 8. Thus, there is provided adjacent the inner end of each detachable portion foldable parts I2', I3 and I4 distinguished from each other by the corresponding creases.
Printed upon the area of each separable p0rtion within the triangle formed by the score lines thereon is appropriate indicia I5 significant to implacement of a coin to be mailed with the coin carrier.
In each detachable pcrtion ofthe sheet at a point spaced outwardly from the fold-line I2 is made a slit I6 for the purpose hereinafter set forth, and upon the front face of each detachable portion is imprinted postal indicia Il, and also 40,
matter relating to an addressee I8 and designation I9 of the point for postal delivery.
Upon the front face of the inner portion 3 of the sheet are imprinted, for example, a series of advertisements A, B and C which ordinarily are of a character designed to induce sales of articles or commodities being exploited by the addressees appearing upon the corresponding front faces of the detachable portions. In the example shown in Fig. 1 the advertisement A preferably relates to the business of the addressee on the detachable portion 4. Advertisement B relates to the business of the addressee on the detachable portion 5, while the advertisement C tisement D while the other detachable portions 4, 5 and 6 are utilized in making replies to the` advertisements A, B and C respectively.
'I'he arrangement of the advertisements and theV detachable portions related thereto as herein set forth may be re-arranged as circumstances may'A require to enable persons reading the publication to more readily associate the particular-detachable portions with the related advertisements.
Upon the back face areas of the detachable portions 5 1 located between the fold-line I2 and their outer ends are printed corresponding blank 'forms 20 providing indicia for the placement of g as a4 postal coin carrier, after which a coin 23 of the names ofA respondents and their addressees which are to be supplied beforemailing the coin carriers.
Also, upon the back face of the sheetextending across the foldable parts is placed a narrow coating 2| of adhesive material (Fig. 2) that, when the parts I3' and I4 arefolded, is exposed along the inner borders of saidrparts and also is exposed uponthe outer front face of the part I2' (Figs. 4 and 5) When the adhesive is moistened and the parts are all folded, and the pointed end 22 is inserted through the slit I6, theparts thus folded become secured in position for mailing.
In use, the sheet I is inserted with its inner margin disposed preferably between the leaves of a publication and bound with the leaves there- 'off as in the usual manner of ,fastening leaves of a publication together, thus a person in leang over the publication, upon being attracted by any one of the advertisements A, B, C' or D that are displayed upon the inner portion 3, should desire to communicate with the advertisers, the particular related detachable portion of the sheet is conveniently removed by the observer for use the required denomination is placed -over the indicia I5 on the fololable part I2V andl the foldable parts I3' and I4' are then folded over the coin, thus enveloping it completely between the part I2 and the parts I3' and I4. The adhesive coating 2I that is exposed on the foldable parts is then mostened and the foldable parts are placed nally in position with the pointed end of the folded structure extending through the slit I6 made in the detachable portion of the sheet, thus sealing the coin within the envelope, constituted of the foldable parts, in connection with the outer detached portion of the sheet and completing a postal coin carrier. The sender or respondent, after supplying on the indica thereforprovided on the back face his name and address, mails the coin carrier for delivery to the addressee indicated on the front face.
A valuable lfeature of the invention is that vkthough anyone or all of the detachable portions shall, have been removed, the inner portion 3 bearing the advertisements remains intact in the publication without loss of value 0f the advertisements.
What I claim is:
A postal coin carrier formed of a single pasteboard sheet one end portion of which constitutes a postal card and the opposite end portion thereof having foldable parts along two fold lines which diverge from the midpoint of the free edge of the end portion and each makes an angle of substantially 45 degrees therewith so arranged that when folded over onto each other and against the front face of said card constitutes a closed envelope for containing and completely concealing therein a coil to be mailed, the outer marginal ends of said parts upon the backs thereof along the marginal end edge of the card being provided with a strip of re-moistenable adhesive, said card having made therein a slit adapted to receive the tip of the envelope when folded, said adhesive strip being so disposed on said foldable parts that when said parts are folded and the tip of the envelope is inserted through said slit, the abutting edges of the underlying folded parts are secured to the front face of the card by said adhesive and the tip of the envelope is attached by said adhesive to the back face of said card.
