Description

May 20; 2 J. S. HARPER PLOW CLAMP Filed Dec. 5, 192] m m m Patented May 20, 1924.
PATENT OFFICE.
J OSIAH: S. HARPER, OF ROANOKE, ALABAMA.
PLOW CLAMP.
Application filed December 5, 1921. Serial no. 520,055.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JosIAH S. HARPER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Roanoke, in the county of Randolph and State of Alabama, have invented a new and useful Plow Clamp, of which the following is a specification.
The device forming the subject matter of this application is a clamp, and the invention aims to provide a clamp adapted to hold a plow point on a plow stock, the device being of peculiar utility in connection with plow points which have been worn down until they are so short that they cannot be held in place advantageously by ordinary means.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention apperta-ins.
lVith the above and other objects in view, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described in the scope of what is claimed, changesin the precise embodiment of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in section, a device constructed in accordance with the invention, mounted on a plow stock, parts being in elevation; Figure 2 is a cross section on the line 22 of Figure 1 and Figure 3 is a perspective view delineating the clamp.
The numeral 1 marks a plow stock which may be made up of parallel members 2, a spacer 3 being located between the lower ends of the members 2, and being held on the members 2 by securing elements 4. The spacer 3 and the securing elements 4: may be alluded to generally as a connection uniting the members 2 at their lower end. The clamp forming the subject matter of this application includes a plate-like base 5 having an elongated slot 10, the base being supplied at one end with a reduced extension 6,
disposed approximately at right angles to the base, the extension 6 having an arm 7 located about parallel to the base, the arm terminating in a finger 8 disposed approximately parallel to the extension 6 and approximately at right angles to the base 5.
and claimed, it being understood that, with- The numeral 9 denotes a plow point, resting against the forward edge of the plow stock 1. The base 5 of the clamp cooperates with the rear edge of the plowstock 2, the extension 6 extends through the plow stock, the arm 7 extends downwardly along the plow point 9, and the finger 8 is received in an opening 11 in the plow point. A securing element 12, such as a bolt, passes through the plow stock 11 and through the slot 10 in the base 5 of the clamp and holds the clamp on the plow stock, the clamp retaining the plow point 9.
The construction of the device is such that a short plow point may be held conveniently on a plow stoclga proper adjustment of the plow point with respect to the stock being possible.
Havin thus described the invention, what is claims is:
In a device of the class described, a stock including spaced members and a connection uniting said members at their lower ends; a plow point engaging the forward edge of the stock and having an opening located adjacent to the upper edge of the point; a clamp comprising a plate-like base abutting against the rear edge of the stock and elongated in the direction of the length of the stock, the base having a slot which is elongated in the direction of the length of the stock, the base being provided with a reduced extension disposed approximately at right angles to the stock and passing between the members of the stock, the extension passing across the upper edge of the plow point, and being provided with a downwardly prolonged arm extended along the forward surface of the plow point, the arm being provided with a finger disposed approximately parallel to the extension and prolonged through the opening in the plow point, the finger being received between the members of the stock, in spaced relation to the connection between said members, both the extension and the finger being slidable between the members of the stock to permit an adjustment of the clamp and the point longitudinally of the stock, the extension and the finger affording a two-point slidable anchorage between the clamp and the stock and serving to aline the slot of the base with the space between the members of the stock; and a tightening device insertable into the iii? 5 1,494,686
