LocoMoTIVE. I
Appiication filed January 15, 1923. serial N-o. 612,870.
T all whom z'z may concern.' y
Be 1t known that I, EUGn-N HAGENBUGHER,
' residing at Essen, Germany, a citizen of the German Republic, have invented ay certain new and useful Improvement in Locomotives, of which the following is a specifica tion. l
This invention relates to locomotives of the kind comprising a blower for producing an artificial draught, and it has for its object to provide a smoke box of a construction which will allow the firing of the locomotive boiler by natural draught or by means of' an auxiliary blower also in case the blower has been stopped, without interfering with the accessibility of the smoke tubes of the boiler.
The accompanyingdrawing illustrates, by way of example, an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention.
Fig. l is a longitudinal section through the smoke box,
Fig. 2 is a plan view corresponding to Fig. l, and
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 2, seen from the left.
The smoke box which is divided by a partition g into two chambers 1" and s, possesses a main chimney o and an auxiliary chimney c which is co-axially inserted into the main chimney and generally closed by a rotatable flap d.
The flue gases pass by the way l, 2, 3 from the boiler e through an opening f of the partition g and the opening h of the smoke box into an economizer, not shown in the drawing, which is arranged laterally of the boiler e. A blower will cause the flue gases to pass from the economizer along the way 4, 5 either directly or indirectly after flowing through another economizer, by the opening a' of the smoke box into the annular channel 0 of the smoke box and from the latter through the main chimney into the atmosphere.
As is to be seen from Figs. l and 3, the partition g is connected by staybolts m to the smoke box door 7c, so that upon opening the smoke box door all smokeand firetubes are freely accessible. The partition g may, of Course, be also detachably connected to any other part of the smoke box.
If no steam is consumed, such as for instance when lighting-up or during the stoppage at the stations, the flap CZ is swung down completely sothat the auxiliary chimney c is open and the opening of the partition g closed by the flap (l. In this case, the fiue gases can no longer pass to the main chimney Z) but are all driven out through the auxiliary chimney c by means of an auxiliary blower p.
Claims:
l. A locomotive comprising a blower forproducing an artificial draught, a smoke box, a. main chimney and an auxiliary chimney, the smoke box being divided into two chambers, one of these chambers being in communication with a channel leading to the main chimney and the other chamber being provided with means adapted to put this chamber in communication either with the first-mentioned chamber or with the auxiliary chimney.
2. A locomotive comprising a blower for producing an artificial draught, a smoke box, a main chimney and an auxiliary chimney, the smoke box being divided into two chambers, one of these chambers being in communication with a channel leading to the main chimney and the other chamber containing an auxiliary blower and being provided with means adapted to put this chamber in communication either with the first-mentioned chamber orwith the auxiliary chimney.
3. A locomotive comprising a blower for producing an artificial draught, a smoke box, a main chimney and an auxiliary chimney, a. partition in the smoke box, said partition being easily detachably connected to a part of the smoke box and arranged to divide the smoke box into two chambers, one of these chambers being in communication with a channel leading to the main chimney and the other chamber containing an auxiliary blower and being provided with means adapted to put this chamber in communication either with the first-mentioned chamber or with the auxiliary chimney.
t. A locomotive comprising a blower for producing an artificial draught, a smoke box, a main chimney and an auxiliary chimney, a partition in the smoke box arranged to divide the smoke box into two chambers, one of these chambers being in communication with the main chimney and the other chamber containing a blower and being in communication with the auxiliary chimney, an opening in the said partition for establishing communication between the two chambers, and a Hap mounted for limited rotation in the smoke box and adapted, when in one limit position, to close the said opening of the partition and, when in its other limit position, to interrupt the communication between the last-mentioned chamber and the auxiliary chimney:
5. A locomotive comprising a blower lorr said annular channel and the other chamber containing a blower and being in communr cation with the auxiliary chimney, an opening in the said partition for establishing communication between the two chambers, and a flap mounted for limited rotation in the smoke box and adapted, when in one limit position, to close the said opening of the partition and, when in its other limit position, to interrupt the communication between the last-mentioned chamber and the auxiliary chimney.
The foregoing specification signed at Cologne, Germany, this 9th da)7 of December, 1922.
