ALLYN CORNELL AND I-IIRAM C. HAZEN, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
GAME.
Application filed. August 9, 1921. Serial No. 490,839.
./"0 all whom it'mogz concern:
Be it known that we, ALLYN Connnnn and llnnur C. Haznn, citizens of the United States, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of Galifornia, have invented a certain new and useful Gt111(3,'01f which the following is a specification.
Our invention rclatosto a game, more pa rti .-ularly a parlor game to be played by two persons and it is in the form of a board and with contesting members to be played from opposite sides of the middle of. said board, and the objects of our invention a re: lirst, to provide an intensely interesting game of this class; second, to provide a novel game and a novel way of playing said game; third to provide a game which is a representation of banking and the ways of keeping the money from the bank; fourth, to provide a game of this class in which the placing of the members is a matter of strategy by the playersandfifth, to provide a game of this class which is very simple and economical to construct, easy to learn to play, interesting and instructive.
With these and other objects in view as will appear hereinafter, our invention consists of certain novel features of construction, c nnbination and arrangement of parts and portions as will be hereinafter described in detail and particularly set forth in the appended claims, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings and to thecharacters of reference thereon which form a part of this application in which:
Fi ure 1 is a- )lan view of the board Fig. 2 is a plan view of one of theplaying members termed th Cop;-Fig. 3 is a plan view of another of the playing members termed the Push penny and Fig.4 is a plan view of one of another playing member termed the Thief. 7
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts and portionsthroughout the views of the drawings.
The board, cop, push penny and thieves are preferably made of thick pasteboard but may be made of any material as desired and are printed on one side as shown.
The board 1 is provided with the words Push penny on opposite ends, which is the name of the game. The board 1 is also provided wlth forty large squares 1*. and
with sixty-three small squares 1 positioned at the intersections of the lines at the sides of the large squares l and arranged as pital and sections 1 First aid, there being one of each on each side of the middle of the board. It 15 also provided with two large sections 1 on each side interposed between sections 1 and 1 which sections are designated Jail. It is provided in the center with a circular section l which is designated Cop and with a section 1 on opposite sides thereof on the middle line which are. designated Bank and with a section 1 at opposite ends in the middle which are designated Pocket. The sections 1 1", and 1 are circular in form. Used in connection with the board are the following members: the cop member 2 as shown best in Fig. 2 of the drawings being arectangular member with the representation of a cop thereon, there being only one of these, a push penny 3 as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings, of which there are two of different color, the one for one player and the other for the other player and fourteen thief members 4 with the designation of a person in striped clothes and the word Thief thereon. There are seven of these for each player, making fourteen, seven be ing of a difierent color than the other seven, so that they may be readily distinguished by the players.
The push penny member 3 ma T be moved in any direction following the lines upon any of the unoccupied small squares 1 and moved one square in each turn. The push penny cannot jump other members but can be jumped by any of the, opposing members except the opposing push penny. The thief member a can be moved in any direction following the lines upon any of'the small squares that are unoccupied, one square in a turn. It can jump any of the opposing members immediately upon moving into an adjacent square if there is an unoccupied square next beyond the opposing thief member in a straight line. Any members jumped by a thief must be placed in either the first aid or hospital sections on the board on the. jumpers side at his choice. A thief can be jumped by any of the opposing thieves and the cop member and if jumped by the cop by either player but must jump any member It is provided near each corner or members placed in such a manner that there isa vacant square or squares next beyond'in straight line. The movers opponent must jump the cop over the rnovers member or any other member or members eXposed by the move in such a case. If there is choice of jumps the player using the cop chooses the way the cop jumps. Thieves i-impedby the cop are placed 111 the jail 0f the opposite side. The thieves may escape from the jail, first aid, or hospital the small square in front of the same is ungocupied.
The game is played as follows: the cop member 2 is placed on the cop circle 1 on the board, the push. pennies are then placed at the respective ends of board on the pockets 1 and each player lines his seven thieves on the seven small squares that" form the third row fromthe middle of the'board,
counting the 'middle row, on his side of board. The game is started by one of the players moving one of the thieves or his penny in any direction following the hnes upon any unoccupied small' square adjacent tothe movedthief or push penny, one square in turn. Upon moving into a square adjacent to an opposing thief or push penny a thief must immediately jump the opposing member or members following the lines in case the square or squares next beyond is unoccupied. If the square next beyond an opposing member is occupier the opposing thief automaticallyjumps the exposed member or members. A; jump. does not count as a turn. A thief umped by an opposing thief is placed in either the first Ftll or hospital of the jumping side-at the discretion of the jumper. If a'player moves a memberin front of the cop a in such a manner as to expose the member, the opposing player must jump the cop over the exposed member or members. In the; event there is a choice of jumps the player using thencop has the choice. The cop member can jump but cannot he jumped and cannot be moved by either player encept tojump an-' other ii ember as hercinbe 7 re set forth A thief may escape from the first aid, hospital or jail if the small square in front of the gate is unoccupied, by moving onto the small" square, the move-counting as a turn in playing. The push pennies cannot juinp,
In order to win, a player must either ump the opposing push penny or place his ownpush pennyv inone of the banks 15 on either side. v r
Though we have shown and described a particularconstruction, combination and arrangement of parts and portions, we do not wish to'be limited to this particular construction, combination and arrangement but desire to include in the scope of our invention the construction, combination and ar- It. obvious thatwith'this construction there is provided a parlor game which very interesting and instructive; that a great deal of strategy must be used on the part of the players to win; that thereare a plurality of points to watch with each play and requires considerable concentration and fore-thought. 7
Having thus described our invention what'we claim as new and desire to secijire by Letters Patent is:
1. A game apparatus including, a board divided into a plurality of square sections, aiplurality of small squares positioned at the intersections of the lines of said largesect-ions; a large rectangular section at each corner of the board, a central cop section, two jail sectionsnear the opposite ends near the middle on opposite sides of said cop section, two pocket sections at the opposite ends outside of said jail section, a cop block member, push penny members and seven thief members for each player on opposite sides. I V
2. A game apparatus including aboard divided into a plurality of square sections,
a plurality of small squares positioned at the intersections of the lines ofsaid large sections, a large rectangular section at each corner of the board, a-central cop section,
two ail sectionsnear the opposite ends near the middle on opposite sides of said cop sece tion, two pocket sections at the opposite ends outside of said jail section, and a plurality V of game members movable on said board,
3. A'game apparatus including, a board divided into. -aplurality of square, open sections, a plurality of small squares positioned at the intersections of thelines of said open sections, a" large, -rectangular section at each cornerof the board, a central section, two jail ections nea r the opposite end near the middle on the opposite side of said central section, and a plurality of game members movable on said board;
at. A game apparatus, including, a board" divided into a'plurality' of square, open sections, a. plurality of small squares positioned at the intersect-ions of the lines of said open sect ons, a} central cop section, two jail sections near the opposite end near the middle-on the opposite sides of said cop section,'two pocket sections at the opposite ends outside of said jail sections, and thief, cop and push penny members movable on said board. e
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto set our hands at San Diego, California, this lth day of August, 1921.
