c. A. JCHANNESEN GAME BOARD Filed Apr. 7, 1921 Patented Apr. 10, 1923.
CONRAD A.JOHANNESEN, OF ERIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
GAME BOARD.
Application filed April 7, 1921.
'1 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CONRAD A. JOHAN- NESEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Erie, in the county of Erie and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Boards; and I do hereby declare thefollowing to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to games, and has for its object the production of game-board upon which is printed a diagram illustrating streets of a town or city, having a central park-like space to which entrance is gained from radial drives which intersect with cross streets and connect with belt line boulevard.
The intersections of the streets are provided with holes adapted to receive pegs representing the different players.
The features of my invention-are hereinafter more fully described and pointed out, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which The figure is a plan view of my improved game-board.
In this drawing A indicates a board on which is drawn, printed or impressed a plan showing a system of intersecting streets B and C; the outer ends of which terminate in a belt line boulevard D.
The intersections are provided with holes E adapted to receive pegs (not shown) which may be moved from hole to hole by the players. F indicate the starting points for the players, each of which moves a peg in his turn, endeavoring to move his pegs around the central park until he can gain entrance to the park-drive adjacent to his starting point, from which he can enter the central park.
In making the circuit of the board the Serial No. 459,211.
players move in opposite directions as indicated by the arrows, and it is a parto'f the game for one player to block the passage of the other players by placing a peg in an intersection across which the opponent must pass; and when a playenfinds an intersection occupied, he must come to a stop with that peg, or make a detour.
Each player is provided with an equal number of pegs, the number being limited to such a total as can conveniently be manipulated on the board; thus, if but two persons are playing, each player can be provided with a greater number of pegs than if four persons are playing.
The game can be played by each player moving one peg in turn, or it can be played by each player shaking dice to determine the number of moves he can make at each turn, and may concentrate the result of his dice on one peg or may distribute the same among several of his pegs.
The object to be gained is to get all of your pegs into the park before the others do.
Having thus shown and described my invention so as to enable others to utilize the same, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A game apparatus comprising a board having a central space, a marginal pathway, radial path-ways connecting said central space with said marginal path-ways, and a series of intersecting path-ways connecting and intersecting said radial pathways and marginal pathway.
2. A game apparatus comprising a board having a central space, a marginal pathway. radial pathways connecting said central space and marginal path-way, starting stations adjacent to the intersections of said radial path-ways and marginal path-ways, and a series of intersecting path-ways connecting with said radial path-ways and marginal path-ways having holes at their intersections.
In testimony whereof I my signature.
CONRAD A. JOHANNESEN.
