Description

S. W. REED.
Slash-Fasteners.
.n Patented March 31, 1874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OEErcEc SHEPHERD W. REED, OF VATERLOO, IOWA.
IMPRCVEMENT lN SASH-FASTENERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No4 149,156, dated March 31,1874; application iled March 7, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, SHEPHERD W. REED, of Waterloo, in the county of Black Hawk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and Improved Sash-Lock, of which the following is a specification:
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l represents a front view, Fig. 2 a sectional top view on line :v a', Fig. l, and Fig. 3 a vertical transverse section on the line c c, Fig. 2, of my improved sash-lock.
Similar letters of reference indicate correspondin g parts.
My invention relates to improvements in sash-locks, by which the window-sash may be firmly attached to the frame in a neat, cheap, and simple manner 5 and it consists of a sliding bolt nwhich locks into recesses of the window-frame, being operated by a pivoted latch with notches and projecting pill or lug, and fastened to a slotted guide-piece after the bolt is pushed forward.
A in the drawing represents a window-sash, to which the lock B is attached, and G the window-frame, which has recesses at suitable distances apart for the bolt D of the lock. Bolt D slides in slots of the forward-projecting guide-pieces of staples E of base-plate E', which is rmly screwed or otherwise attached to the sash. A latch-piece, F, with handleextension F', is pivoted at a to the main bolt D,and serves to move it forward and back, as required. Latch F slides in a second slot, b, of the rear guide-piece E, being provided with side notches d and a projecting pin or lug, c, by which the latch is fastened to guide-piece E after the bolt is pushed forward into a recess of the frame. Slot b of guide-piece E is suitably enlarged for the passage of pin c. The pivoted latch is carried down in slot b until notch cl and pin c engage firmly guidepiece E, and prevent thereby the withdrawal of the bolt, except by the release of the latch.
The sash is thus fastened to the frame by a simple Yand easilybperated lock, which forms a strong connection, and can be cheaply furnished.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The improved sash-lock composed of sliding main bolt D, with pivoted latch-piece F, having side notches Z and projecting pin c, and combined with recessed guide-pieces E, to be arranged and operated substantially in the manner and for the purpose set forth.
