W. A. EVERS RAZOR BLADE HOLDER Filed Marbh 21. 1923 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY.
jprn ZZ,
ri rsu iin ed es@ o tl EMQR-BLJDE IELLDER.
` application tiled March 2l, Serial No. 626,613.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that l, lfinnrnin A. Evnns, a citizen oi the United States, residing at Martinsburg, in the county of Berkeley and State of VJest Virginia, have invented certain new and useful improvements in RazonBlade Holders, or" which the following is a specication, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
rlhis invention relates to razor blade holders and more particularly to device oE this type "for holding a razor blade so that it may be employed as the blade of a knife. Y
Y ein important object of the invention is to provide improved means for clamping the blade in adjusted position and rnore particularly to a ineans for preventing oscillation of the blade While so positioned.
A. further object oi the invention is to provide a structure of this character Whereby the clamping means set forth in my prior applications, Serial Nos. 614,672, 614,633, and 614,674, iiled January 2d, 1923, razor blade holders, is improved and rendered more ei'lcient and durable.
These and other objects l obtain by the construction or" arrangement shown in 'the accompanying drawings, wherein for the purpose oi illustration kis shown the preferred embodiments oi my invention, and Whereinn Figure l is a side elevation oi a lrnie blade embodying my improved blade holding means; v
ig. 2 is an elevation ot the opposite side ot the imite; n Y
Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the blade extended; f
Fig. i is a section on Fig. l;
lfig. 5 is a view or" the clamping plate; Fig. 6 is a side elevation or one of the slide plates;
` Fig. 7 is a side elevation of a modification oi the invention;
Fig., 8 is a sectional view line 8 8 of Figure "Z and i ldigs. 9 and 10 are views of the clampthe line y /l-li oi 4ing and slide plates employed in this form.
As set forth `in those prior applications hereinbeore mentioned, they razor blade holder proper consists oi a easing including spaced side Walls 10 and i1 connected by edge Walls 12 and intermediate which a blade 13 is mounted `tor sliding movenient, this blade being heldin position by a clamping plate 1li, through Which a clamping screw 15 engaged through an opening of the blade anda corresponding opening in the Wall oi the casing is die posed. By tightening this clamping screw the blade rnay be held in extended or Withdrawn position. ln accordance with the present construction, adjacent the end of the casing an edgewall thereof is removed for short distance and a side Wall 10 provided With an extension 16, disposed at an angle to the casing proper` and Ihaving formed therein a longitudinally extending slot 17. The opposite sidewall 11 is ter- Ininated short of the side Wall 10, so as to expose a portion of the inner surface of the side Wall 10, for a purpose presently to appear. Extending through the slot 17 is a bolt 18 which is adjusted longitudinally ot the slot and which, when disposed adjacent the inner end of the slot, will engageagainst the edge of a blade B, carried by the casing When the saine is extended. By tightening the bolt 18,V the opposite edge of the blade may be forced into engagement with the adjacent edge of a Wall 12- and the blade rigidly held by the clamping screw i5, bolt 18, and the engagement oi the blade 'with suchv Wall. ln order to provide for ready operation oit thebolt 18 and to eliminate all chance oi the operator engaging his ngers with the blade in shifting the bolt in the slot 17, l provide the clamping plate 14 of an angular extension 19, overlying and corresponding to the extension 16, the side Wall 10, and having a slot 2() corresponding to the slot 17. Upon the outer face of the Wall 10 and upon the remote tace of the clamping plate le, as regards the Wall i 10, l mount side plates 2l, each having an opening 22, in Which the bolt 18 fits and a slot 23 extending longitudinally of the side plates and through `Which the clamping bolt 15 of the plate 1d extends.
lt will be seen that with the bolt engaged in the plates 21., shitting ot the bolt may 'be accomplished by shitingthe plates Q1, and it will further be seen that the bolt 22 may be held in an adjusted position, the clamping engagement being provided by the engagement of the clamping bolt 15, with the side plates 28. rlhe inner feces of these side plates are preferably roughened as indicated at 24:, so that they will have a y biting engagement with the Walls of the casing and with the clamping plate le. It desired,lthe boit 18 may be tightened after the plates 2i have been adjusted but this will not ordinarily be necessary.
In the form shown in Figures 7 te l() the clamping plate le engages kthe blade B through pressure exerted thereon by a clamping set screvy7 25 extendingythrough the Wall oi the casing l0, remote from `the blade B as regards the plate, theend of this set screw abutting the plate and forcing the clamping plate into engagement with the blade. With this form oi' my invention I provide a single slide plate 2l, having an opening through which the securing element 18 isdisposed. This plate has not formed therein the slot 23 ordinarily provided in the slide plates but is solid and is abutted bythe clamping screivf and forced into engagement with the clamping plate 14, in turn forcing this clamping plate into engagement With the blade. It Will be seen that in each of the forms of the invention the tightening of a singleelement serves to secure the blade against longitudinal slippage and to maintain against the edge oi the blade the element 18, Which prevents rotation of the blade. l
What is claimed, is:
