To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that T, Pnrnns JoHANNics Comvnms Vrnnnvonn, a subject of the Queen of the Netherlands, residing at Amsterdam,
u Province of North Holland, Kingdom of the Netherlands, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Paint Scrapers or the like Tools, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to paint-scrapers and more particularly to that type of scraper in which the scraping iron has a triangular shape.
The tools hitherto used, have the disadvantage that the substance to be scraped for example, wood and the like IS in mostcases damaged under the coat of colour which is to be removed. Furthermore it is often necessary for the edges of the scraping iron to be sharpened, which causes much loss of time. There is a further disadvantage that after using known tools for scraping, the object to be treated must be roughened by scouring or by etching otherwise the new coat of colour will not adhere sufiiciently to the remaining part of the old coat and will scale off after some time.
The present invention relates to an improvement in such colour scrapers and intends to render unnecessary the operation of etching and burning d the old coat of colour as well as the scouring of the wood surface to be painted.
When using the tool according to this invention the surface to be painted again is not damaged although it is slightly roughened; in this way a very good adherence between the old coat and new coat of paint will he obtained whilst scaling oft will not occur.
According to the present invention teeth are provided at one or more of the edges of the scrape iron. For this purpose f. i. the scrape iron of the usual triangular paintseraper may be provided with a small removable blade; the edge of this blade extending beyond the edge of the scrape iron is provided with teeth. These teeth being worn in use this blade may be easily removed.
A form of construction of the invention} 7 is represented on the drawing.
Figure 1 is a cross section, partly elevation of the tool.

The scrape iron 1 of the tool may be of the usual triangular shape and is provided with a central opening for receiving the squared end'o'l a supporting handle or shaft 2. The edges of the iron 1 are beveled, as usual, along one side to provide scraping edges at the rear or. handle side of the scraper. A recess 4 is provided along one edge of the iron 1, as by cutting back the rear face, to form a seat for receiving a toothed scrape blade 5. he dimensions of the recess a and of the movable blade 5 are such that the toothed edge of the blade extends some millimeters beyond the edge of the scrapeiron. The scrape blade 5 is secured in the recess 4: by means of a spring plate 6 which is curved at one end and which is provided with a square aperture, corresponding to the square part 7 of the shaft 2, over which it fits. By means of nuts 8 and 9 the plate 6 and the scrape blade 5 are secured between the scrape iron and the shaft. The toothed blade 5 may thus be easily removed in a very short time.
When required the edge 10 on the scraper blade 5 opposite to the toothed edge may be sharpened so that after turning the scraps blade 5 may be used for removing paint. As the length of the edge 10 is smaller than the edge of the scrape iron 1, the edge 10 may be used when treating places which are not attainable with the opposite scrape edge. 7
What I claim is:
1. A paint scraper comprising a scrape iron having a plurality of edges, each of which is beveled to provide scraping edges all lying at one face of the iron, said scrape iron being provided with a central opening therethroughand with a recess extending along one of said edges and at the scraping face of said scrape iron, a thin serrated supplemental scrape blade arranged in said recess, an auxiliary plate having a spaced engagement with said blade and said iron 1, wherein said scrape blade has a shorter slde sharpened to form an mferehangeafie scraping edge less in length then any of the mam scraping edges provlded on smd scrape 1:1 11011.
