BY a Cl @3 ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIQE.
GEORGE J. HUN ERYAGER, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SCRAPER.
Application filed. December 26, 1918.
YAGER, a citizen of the United States, and
a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrapers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in wall paper removing tools, and has for its object the production of a device of this character which will be of durable and economical construction, and through the medium of which wall paper may be removed with ease and expedition.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed. 1
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which,
Figure 1, is a front elevation of the wall paper remover embodying the invention, and
Fig. 2, a section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the drawings, comprises a blade 3, the rearward end of which is reduced in width to constitute a shank upon which are arranged handle forming members 5 secured thereto by rivets 6.
The forward or operative end of blade 3 is comparatively wide, and the forward edge thereof is straight, the same being bev-. eled and-sharpened. with a plurality of equally spaced recesses 7, which result in the formation of teeth 8. Leading rearwardly or inwardly from the recesses 7 are grooves 9 which are formed in one side of blade 3.
The tool is used by inserting the same between the wall paper and the surface to which the same is applied, it having been found that the recessed edge, that is, the edge formed of a plurality of spaced sharp edged teeth, readily finds its way between Specification of Letters Patent.
Said edge is formed- Serial No. 268,426.
the paper and the surface to which the same is appl ed, making it possible to readily and easlly separate the paper from the wall. As the tool is used, the teeth 8 wear down,
necessitating filing of the recesses 7, as will.
be readily understood. Through the provision of the grooves 9, this filing of the recesses 4 to keep pace with the wearing down of the teeth 18 greatly facilitated, inasmuch as such grooved formation results in a ma terial reduction in thickness of the plate at the points where filing is necessary. L At the same time, said grooves mark the exact .location of the teeth, which otherwise would not be maintained of uniform thickness as the filing proceeded. This arrangement also leaves sufficient metal connecting adjacent teeth to insure the desired reinforcement of the teeth, which, of course, is necessary in order to provide a rigid recessed edge for contact with the work. 7
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. 1. therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A tool ofthe class described comprising a blade having a beveled edge, said edge be ing provided with a plurality of spaced parallel recesses forming parallel teeth; and grooves formed in the beveled side of said blade leading from said recesses, substan' tially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
