Description

`March 25 1924.
1,487,901 S.TRACHTENBERG i COMB Filed Sept; 28. 1923 Y Patented Mar. 25, i924,
mai/nei SAMUEL TRACHTENBERG, F CLEVELAND, OHIO.
Application filed September 28, 1923.
To all whom if may concern.'
Be it known that I, SAMUEL TRAGHTEN- BERG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Guya hoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain Vnew and useful Improvements in Combs, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combs, having for an object the provision of a comb, including means whereby it may removably carry an insert such as a mirror, picture or the like.
Another object is to provide a pocket comb, with an integrally Vformed open frame or extension upon its back and including means for removably retaining a mirror therein.
It is likewise an object to provide a comb having an integrally formed extension on its back, said extension having a transverse opening to permit of insertion and removal of an insert through either end.
Other objects will be in part obvious and in partpointed out hereinafter.
In order that the invention and its mode of operation may be readily understood by persons skilled in the art, I have in the accompanying illustrative drawings, and in the following detailed description based thereon set out one possible embodiment of the same.
In these drawings:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the comb constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevation thereof.
Fig. 3 is a section. taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l and Fig. 4c is a view illustra-ting the modifica tion of the insert.
Having more particular reference to the drawings in connection with which similar characters of reference will designate corresponding parts throughout, the improved comb may be stated as comprising a back portion 5, provided along one edge with the usual teeth 6, said comb being obviously constructed of any desired material. Arranged upon the back of the comb and preferably formed integral therewith is an open frame or extension 7 which may be of any Serial No. 665,381,
desired configuration and is preferably of materially less dimension than the length of the comb, the opening being arranged or formed transversely to permit insertion and removal of an insert through either end.
This open frame or hack portion 7 is adapted to removably receive and carry an insert or body 8, which as illustrated in the accompanying drawings is in the form of a mirror. It is quite obvious that instead of placing a mirror in the frame, I could as well Vsubstitute asmall framed picture or any insert of this nature.
In order that the insert or body may be reliably retained in the opening, I have provided in the wall forming the opening, a groove 9 as shown in Fig. 8, this groove being adaptable for reception of the shouldered periphery of a mirror or a frame in which the mirror is arranged. Obviously this opening may be of any desired configuration.
By reference to Fig. 3 it is seen that the mirror or insert will be readily insertable into the transverse opening formed in the comb back extension, through either end of said opening and upon as suming the position illustrated in Fig. 3
will be held against accidental displacement due to peculiar connection as between the frame 7 and the mirror.
This comb together with the extension or open frame may be easily and consequently inexpensively manufactured and, since it L may be stamped from a single piece of material, will rcqui re very little finishing. As heretofore stated. the opening is adaptable for the reception of a mirror or any body or 4insert which may be desired.
Manifestly, the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification asma-y fall within the scope of my claims, I consider within the spirit of my invention.
I claim:
1. A comb having an extension upon its back arranged in a relatively longitudinal plane and formed integrally therewith said extension having a transverse opening therethrough, the wall forming the open-l ing being concave, and. an insert having a CTL convex periphery for reception in the conoavve Wall of the opening whereby to removably sea-t the insert.
2. A comb having an extension upon its beck in a longitudinal plane therewith, said comb and extension being stamped from the same sheet of material, said extension having :L transverse opening therethrough, the peripheral Wall of the opening` being Continuous, and L mirror retionally held in the opening, and removable through either end.
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature; n
SAMUEL TRACHTENBERG.
