Be it known that we, DAVID BARATZ and HARRY Minna, citizens of the United States, residing at Providence, in the count of Providence and State of Rhode Islan have invented new and useful Improvements in Caps, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in. caps, and the primary object thereof is to provide 'novel means for enabling the head engaging band to be easily and quickly adjusted so as to vary the diameter thereof, and consequently permit fitting of the cap to heads of difierent sizes.

A further object of the invention is to provide means for the purpose mentioned which acts to resiliently hold the cap onto the head to thereby afl ord a protection against the cap blowing ofi the head of the user.

The invention still further aims to provide adjusting means for the head band all does not in any 'wayinterfere with the.com-

iortable use or wear of the cap.

For-the purpose of afi'ording comfortable wear to the user, a sweat band 11, is employed which overlies the end 8. of the elastic strip and all of the snap fastenings, and conceals the latter as well as serving as a means of adording comfort, by preventin contact of the aforementioned parts with the head of the wearer.

in use, it will be seen, that to adjust the cap, it is merely necessary to raise the sweat band, to expose the fastenings and more especially to expose the end 8, with the male fasteningmember, whereupon the elastic is drawn or moved to the desired point, or until the head band is "found to afiord the required 'or desired tit, whereupon the male member 9 and a selected one of the female iastenings are snapped into engagement. Obviously, any number of the female fastenors may be employed as desired, in order to afford any necessary or desirable range of adjustment. It will now be seen that the elastic affords a resilient medium for tensioning the head band, so that by draw ing same fairly tight, the cap can be adjusted so as to resist displacement by the wind, or other forces such as is desirable in playing games of various sorts.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a cap, a tubular head band forming a pocket extending; throughout the circumference of the cap and having an opening, an elastic strip in the pocket having one end thereof free and extending in the opening', a member of a snap fastener on said free end of the strip, a series of complementary snap-fastenin members secured to the opposite" end 0 the elastic and to the head band and extending in the opening. for selective engagement with said first named snap fastening member, and a sweat bandcarried by the cap and movable over and away from said opening so as to cover and expose said snap fastening members.

In a cap, a tubular head band forming a pocket extending throughout the circum ference of the cap and having an opening, an elastic strip in the pocket having one end thereof free and extending in the opening, a member of a snap fastener on said free end of the strip, and a series of comple- 15 mentary snap-fastenin members secured to the opposite end 0, the. elastic and to the head band and extending in the opening for selective engagement with said first named snap fastening member. 20 In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
