Description
Patented lidiar. 4, 1921i.
tiene PATENT OFFICE.
. WLLAM KEllVI, F BROOKLYN, NEW' YORK.
SPOOL HOLDER.
Application led September l0, 1921. Serial No. 499,699.
10 all w/Lom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM KEIM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spool Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has relation to spool holders, and has for an object to provide a device for supporting a plurality of spools of thread in such a position that the thread may bev lengths.
In addition to the foregoing this invention comprehends improvements in the details of construction and arrangement of parts, to he hereinafter set forth and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying Vdrawings in which similar and corresponding parts are designated by the same characters of reference, throughout the several views in which they appear:
Figure 1 is a View in perspective of a spool holder constructed in accordance with my invention, and
Figure 2 is a view thereof in vertical section.
With reference to the drawings, 10 indicates a base member, preferably of wood, although any other suitable material may be employed, and it is to be understood that l Y do not limit myself to the employment of wood as a material in the construction of any part of this invention, but may employ other materials such as metal, plastic material, celluloid, hard rubber, etc. The base member is preferably rectangular and beveled at the corners to improve the appearance or ornamented in any other manner. Five openings, more or less, are bored into the altered to accommodate spools of various upper surface of the base member as indicated at 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15. A pair of posts 16 and 17 are provided, preferably cylindrical and provided with reduced ends 18 to enter the openings 11 and 15 as shown in Figure 2. A partition post 19 is pro- 60.
vided and is formed with a reduced end 2O to enter the opening 13. Each post 16, 17 and 19 is provided with a horizontal opening 21 adjacent its upper end and an opening 22 at its lower end, the openings 21 being in 65 horizontal alignment, likewise the openings 22. A pair of rods 23 are provided, each inserted in one of the horizontal series of openings to connect all of the posts together and to form a support for spools which receive the rods through the center channels usually provided therein. Each rod is provided with a knob 24 which may be either permanently applied theretoas by gluing, or by providing a threaded connection between the two. The openings 21 and 22 of the post 16 may be merely sockets as shown, or may extend entirely through the post, as desired.
The parts are assembled as described and the spools supported upon the rods 23 be- 80 tween the posts 16 and 19, and 19 and 17.
If a longer spool is to be accommodated the center post 19 is removedand inserted into one of the openings 12 or 14C which will provide a wider space between said post and an adjacent post.
Thus, it will be seen that I have provided a novel spool holder which is capable of supporting spools of various lengths, and which may be taken entirely apart and thus readily 00 carried in a hand or sewing bag. Other uses and advantages will be readily apparent. f j
While I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practise various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts, without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:
A spool holder including a base having openings in the top face thereof, removable posts having reduced ends for insertion in said openings, a centra-1 partition post adapt- In testimony whereof I aiix my signati ed to be secured 1n certain of the said open- 1n presence of two Witnesses.
ings in the base, said removable posts and v y ,WILLIAM HEIM [L S l i central `.partition `post being provided4 With aligned apertures therein, and rods extend- Witnesses:
