JAMES '1. HOGUE, OF NORTH FORK, CALIFORNIA.
POOL-BALL BACK AND BASKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 26, 1918.
Application filed January 24, 1917. Serial No. 144,248.
" for holding pool balls having an improved bottom so constructed that it will form a.
rack or triangle, as it is commonly known, a plate being provided in the frame forming the lower portion or bottom of the basket which may be swung to an open position when it is desired to set the pool balls upon the playing table.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this device that the upper portion or hopper of the basket may be formed of wire and provided with a carrying handle.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein 2- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the improved device. 7
Fig. 2 is a View showing theimproved basket in side elevation.
Fig. 3 is a reduced transverse sectional view taken along the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a View similar to Fig. 3 showing a slightly modified construction.
The base or triangle 10 has two or more of its walls provided with slots 11 and is provided with a plate 13 or with a pair of plates 14 pivotally mounted as shown at 15 at one corner of the base or triangle. This bottom which is formed of one or more plates will normally be positioned and.
shown in Fig. 1 so that the pool balls will be retained in the holders when the holder is carried to or away from the playing table. When it is desired to set the balls upon the table, the plate or plates will be swung outwardly by means of the engaging pin or pins 16 and the balls will then be positioned in the triangle which when lifted will leave the balls upon the playing table in the shape of a triangle.
The hopper or basket structure which is carried by the base is formed of wires 17 connected by tie rods or wires 18, the lower wire 17 being connected with the triangle or base by staples or other similar fasteners 19. The handle 20 is formed of twisted wires and is connected with the upper wire 17 by having the wires forming the handle twisted about the upper wire as shown at 21 thus providing a substantial structure. There has thus been provided a basket or container which will provide a receptacle and carrier for the pool balls and which will also form a triangle for use in setting the balls upon the playing table.
What is claimed is 1. A device of the character described comprising a base having slotted walls, a bottom plate pivotally connected with the base and moving through the slots into and out of an operative position, a hopper connected with said base, and a carrying handle connected with said hopper.
2. A device of the character described comprising a base, a bottom plate movably connected with said base and covering the space inclosed thereby when in an operative position, a hopper carried by said base, and a handle carried by said hopper.
3. A device of the character described comprising a base, a movable bottom carried by said base, a hopper carried by said base, said hopper having line wires positioned in superposed relation, tie wires connecting said line wires, and a handle connected with said hopper.
4. A device of the character described comprising a base, a movable bottom carried by said base, a hopper carried by said base and formed of woven strips, and a handle for said hopper.
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES T. HOGUE.
