GEORGE E. vKISSICK, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO K.
- COMPANY, INC., OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS.
JEWEL cAsn.
Application filed June 11,
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnonen E. Krssron,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Attleboro, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Jewel Case, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in a jewel case, and the primary object of the same is to provide a case which will not only serve as a container but also as a display case or stand whereby the same case in which the article of jewelry is displayed will also be used to carry the jewelry when sold.
The invention consists of a case comprising a jewel-carrying base or tray and a top or cover therefor, the two being so corelated and fitted that the tray or base may be removed, the cover inverted, and the tray mounted upright on the inverted cover, forming a neatly finished display stand in which the tray is securely held by the'supporting cover.
In the drawing,
- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the jewel case in use as a display stand; j
Figure 2 is a vertical section through the case when used as a container; and
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view of the container. I
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the base 1 is in the form of an individual tray, being provided with an upstanding,
' central rack or jewelry holder 2 which in the present instance is designed to display cuff links and therefore is provided with slots 3 into which the shanks of the links are slipped. The tray is finished with a plush covering 4, the edges of which are brought over the bottom face and secured by a facing 5. A pull tab 6 is attached to the tray between the turned-over edge of the plush covering and the facing 5, as by an adhesive, said tab providing a convenient hold on the tray for removing the same from the top .when functioning in either The top or cover consists of a plush covered, box-like structure 7 in which is nestingly arranged and secured a shallower box 8, the same forming a shoulder 9 set in from the open edge of the box 7. A finishing fabric 10 of a color like the plush,
" 1' otherwise, is used to face the interior of V Specification of Letters Patent. Pat ted Apr, 25, 1922.

the box 8 and the edges of the facingand the plush covering brought together in the space between the sides of the two boxes In use, the articles of jewelry are mounted on the tray and, for the purposes of'display, the tray is fitted into the open side of the inverted cover or top until it seats on the shoulder 9 when the upper surface of the tray will be substantially'flush with the plush covered edge of the top and thus give the appearance of an integral tray. When in this position the tab 6 extends down into the top, being secured to the bottom face .of the tray, and by pulling on the tab the tray will readily be lifted out. Obviously, when the case is utilized as a container the top is inverted over the tray and forced down until the top surface of I the tray, engages the shoulder 9.
The construction is simple f and its usefulness is obvious and apparent since the jewelry articles are individually displayed and sold in their display case which is then converted into a container. Thus the jewelry 1 is kept from being obscured with. a lot of pieces of jewelry as when displayed on f the ordinary trays, and the purchaser can chifl'onier. r Having thus described my invention, what also utilize the container for thepurposes of display when placed on the bureau or I claim as new and desireto secure 'by Let? ters Patent is s 1. A jewel case comprising a flat base having a centrally located jewel-holding rack,
a pull tab secured to the underside of'the base, and a box-like top having. an inset shoulder extending around the interior walls thereof, said base extending within the top and having its upper' side engaging the.
shoulder when the top serves as a cover and itsunderside engaging the shoulder when Y the top serves as a support for the base for" the purposes of display.
2. In a combined display case and con tainer, a base formedto support an article,
and a box-like top composed of an outer box and an inner box therein, thelatter-ofless depth than the outer box to form a shoulder on which the base seats in either position thereof, and coverings for the outer faces of the outer box and the inner faces of the inner box which coverings having free edges that are turned inwardly to lie between the sides and ends of the respective boxes, the
10 opposite thereto formed to support an article,
and a box-like top having an interior shoulder spaced from the open side of the top and formed to engage thefiat face of the base so as to hold the opposite face there- 15 of substantially flush with the free edges of the open side of the top in one position of the parts, and in a second position of the parts to engage said opposite face of the base to hold the flat face of the base subtantially flush with the free edges of the open side of the top, the peripheral edges of the base being completely received With in the top in all positions of the part;
Intestimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
