MOSQUITO-NET FRAME.
Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 5, 1910.
Application led September 29, 1909. Serial No. 520,151.
To all 'whom t 'may concern:
Be it known that I, EMMETT L. MOFFITT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elon College, in the county of Alamance and State of North Carolina, have invented a new and useful Mosquito-Net Frame, of which the following is a specilicat-ion.
The objects of the invention are, generally, the provision in a merchantable form of a device of the above-mentioned class, which shall be inexpensive to manufacture, facile in operation, and devoid of complicated parts; specifically, the provision of a frame which is adapted to be mounted upon beds, couches, and the like, of various sizes, to support above the occupant of the bed or couch, a netting` to protect the occupant against insects, the resiliency of the constituent material of the device rendering it applicable to structures of widely different dimensions; it being the object of the invention to provide a device of the class mene tioned, which may readily be inverted, and placed in a trunk, the device occupying but little room in the trunk, in the midst of clothing and the like which is packed about it; other and further objects being made manifest hereinafter as the description of the invention progresses.
The invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, delineated in the accompanying drawings, and particularlyy pointed out in that portion of this instrument wherein patentable novelty is claimed for certain distinctive features of the device, it being understood, that, within the scope of what hereinafter thus is claimed, divers changes in the form, proportions, size, and minor details of the structure may be made, without departing from the spirit or sacricing any of the advantages of the invention.
Similar numerals ofl reference are employed to denote corresponding parts throughout the several figures of the drawing.
In the accompanying drawings -Figure l shows my invention in perspective; Fig. 2 is a fragmental bottom plan of the same;
and Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of the Fig. 2.
In carrying out my invention, I provide, primarily, a pair of parallel base bars l, provided, upon their lower faces, with longitudinally extending grooves 2. The base bars l are connected by arcuate supporting members 4, preferably fashioned from resilient wire, the extremities of the members 4 being extended through openings 3 in the base bars l, alined with the grooves 2, in the lower faces of the base bars. rIhe lower extremities of the arcuate supporting members 4 are bent, longitudinally of the base bars l, and are housed inthe grooves 2, this construction being shownfmost clearly in Fig. 3 of the drawings. Retaining members, in the present instance shown in the form of staples 6, are made to straddle the bent ends of the members 4 to hold the same in the grooves 2, the staples G being driven flush with the lower faces of the base bars l. The several members 4 are connected at their highest point, by means of a brace 20, which, as shown in Fig. l, may be bent to engage the members 4, orsecured thereto in any other desired manner. It is to be understood that there may be any number of the members, and that any approved means may be employed whereby the members 4 may be assembled with the base bars 1.
In practical operation, owing to the resiliency of the members 4, the base bars 1 may be sprung apart to the desired distance, to accommodate the width of the particular bed or couch upon which the device is to be used. A netting is then thrown over the device, the members 4 and the brace 20 serving to hold the netting away from the face and body of the occupant.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is A device of the class described comprising rigid, spaced base bars; and resilient, arcuate supporting members having their extremities inserted into the base bars and forming the sole connection between the base bars; the base bars being provided with longitudinally extending grooves in their lower faces, the extremities of the supporting members being bent laterallyv to t 111 the grooves; and retzunmg members mounted in the base bars and arranged to stradclle the overbent portions of the snpporting members, to house said portions entirely Within the contour of the grooves.
In testimony that l Claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aiixed my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
EMMETT L. MQFFITT. lVitnesses H. E. MOFFITT, E. B. HATCH.
