BELT ATTACHMENT.
application led January To aZZ whom t may concer/n:
Be it known that l, CHARLns a citizen of the United States7 residing at Luray, in the county of 1Page and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful lmprovements in Belt Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to a belt attachment, the general object of the invention being to provide means for attaching a watch chain tothe belt so that the watch can be readily removed therefrom, thus preventing theft and loss of the watch and chain.
rlhis invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
ln describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parte throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing the invention in use.
Figure 2 is an enlarged view of the device itself.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the device.v
Figure l is a transverse sectional view.
Figure 5 is a view of the blank from which the device is made.
As shown in these views made of a strip which is looped H. PRINTZ,
the device is upon itself to form a buckle through which a belt is adapted to be passed, as shown in Figure l. @ne end of the strip is slotted, as at 2, to form the ears 3 and l, the ear 3 being preferably rounded at its outer end as shown. These ears are bent into angular shape to form a transverse passage 5 at the lower end of the loop and to close the loop. rlhe rear part of the strip extends below the front part to provide the extension 6 and this rear part is formed with a recess to receive the vertical parts of the ears when the device is in closed condition. The strip has suflicient resiliency to permit its parts to be separated so that the bar 8 of 27, 1923. Serial. No. 615,387.
a watch chain 9 can be placed in the passage 5, the ring on the bar being forced between the rounded end of the ear Sand the front part of the strip as the bar is pushed through the passage until said ring engages the slot 2. rlhe chain is then passed between the vertical parts of the ears and the rear part of the strip until it engages the slot when the parts will assume the positions shown in Figures l and 2.
From the foregoing it will be see-n that the bar end of the chain is securely con nect'ed with the belt so that it will be impossible for a thief to steal the watch and chain and it will also prevent loss of the watch and chain unless the chain is broken. The device can be easily and quickly placed on a belt and removed therefrom.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
l desire it to be understood that l may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
What l claim is 1. A device of the class described comprising a looped member for engaging a belt, the front part of the member having its lower end bent into rectangular shape to form a passage, a'slot being arranged at the center of the passage, one part of the bent end engaging the rear part of the loop member for closing the lower end of the opening formed by the loop member and a recess formed in the rear member for receiving said part.
2. A device of the class described comprising a strip bent upon itself to form a loop, one end of the strip being slotted t0 form a, pair of ears, one ear having a rounded end and the ears being bent into rectangular shape to form a passage, the vertical parts of the bent ears engaging the rear part of the strip and said rear part being recessed to receive said vertical parts.
ln testimony whereof l a my signature.
CHARLES H. PRINTZ.
