IMPROVEMENT IN BATHING APPARATUS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 148,425, dated March 10, 1874 application filed February 14, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. DE LAP, of Athens, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bathing Apparatus; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is arepresentation of a plan view of my bathing apparatus. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a side view of the same.
This invention has relation to bathing apparatus; and it consists in a flexible water-proof pocket combined with a light rigid frame, constructed as will be hereinafter explained.
In the annexed drawings, the letter A designates the side bars of alight but rigid frame, and B B are the end bars of this frame, which are constructed with horns or handles a. The side bars A A are perforated at d for the introduction through them of the nozzle of a steam or water pipe, G, for the purpose of giving a douche bath to a person lying in the tub or pocket'O, and covered bya cloth, J. Each side bar has several holes through it for allowing different parts of the body to be douched. The cover J may be of oiled silk, or of any other suitable material, and it is designed for reventin ex osure of the )erson beiu treatb 0 ed; also, for confining the vapors in the bath when steam or medicated warm water is used.
This cover J is fastened to buttons 1), fixed to the side bars A, so that it can be readily attached and detached. The pocket G is flexible, and it is made of india-rubber, or other suitable flexible water-proof material, and one end of it is raised, so that the head of a person lying on it will be submerged in the water. Among the many advantages of my bathing apparatus, it is portable, and can be put into a very compact shape. The pocket being flexible, it willaccommodate itself to a person lying in it, and will be very comfortable. It can be used. asa stretcher for moving sick and wounded persons, and it is not expensive.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The frame A B, having a flexible waterproof poeket secured to it, the side bars of which frame are perforated, and have attached to them a cover, J, substantially as and for the purposes described.
