Be it known that I, GEORGE W7. Bunnows, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and. State l the provision of 4a garbage can having a removable cuspidor which maybe connected with a waste pipe, and Vwhich `is equipped with a spray nozzle for flushing the same.

Another object of the invention is to pro-V vide a garbage can of the character described which is completely enclosed, and which is provided with suitable shutters, through which the garbage and other refuse will be admitted.

With the above and other objects in view,

the invention has particular relationto certain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in yeach of the figures, the numeral 1 refers to the surrounding casing or shell, into which there movable receptacle 2 is fitted from the rear. This receptacle is designed to contain waste paper and the like, and is equipped with the upper and lower hand grips 4 and 5, by means of which it may be removed to be emptied. The shell has an upward eXtension formed of the vertical' front and rear walls 6 and 7, the front wall having an-eirtrant opening 8 which is normally closed by the shutter 9 which opens inwardly as shown in dotted lines, Figure 1. This shutter is hinged at its upper edge and carries the weight 10 on itsfinner side to normally hold it closed. |This shutter may be opened manually by pushing it inwardly. Gn the inside of the shell, above the receptaclev 2, there is a compartmentll having a flat'bottom 12 formed with a central opening, aligned over'the upper end of the waste pipe 13, which is connected to the sewerv system. jThe receptacle 11 has an entrant opening 14, which is surrounded by a funnel-shaped chute 15. This chute is secured to the wall of the shell and underneath it, thereis a cuspidor 16 which rests on 'the bottom 12, and which has a discharge outlet 17 entering the upper end of the waste pipe 13. The opening 14 is normally closed by theshutter 518,'which is pivoted to 'the` wall of the shell above the opening 14. This door is formed at its upper edge with the short sleevel19 and the aligned long sleeve 20, spaced therefrom and whose outer end carries.v the outwardly turned arm 21. A water pipe 22 leads up through the shell and its upper end is overturned, and extends through the sleeves 19 and 20, forming a support, or bearing for said. sleeves, on which the shutter 18 operates. This water pipe is equipped with a suitable valve23, the outer end of whose stem has the arm 24 ixed thereto. A foot lever 25 is hinged at one end to the rear side of the shell and its free end is formed into a foot pedal 26. This lever is normally held elevated by a coil spring 27, one end of which is attached to the lever and the other end of which is secured to the wall of the shell. A link 28 is pivoted at one end to the'lever 25, and at its other end it is pivoted to the free end ofthe arm 24. A cable 29 is fastened at one end tothe free end of the arm 21 and atits other end itis attached to the coil spring l30, which in turn is secured to the free end of the'arm 24. s

Vhen the foot pedal 26 is depressed, it operates through the link 28 to open the valve 23 and at the same time, it operates through the coil spring 30 and cable 29 to open -the shutter 18. The overturned end of the foot pedal 26 is released the spring 27 will elevate the lever 25 and close the valve 23 through the link 28. At the same time, the shutter 18 will close by' gravity.

What claim is:

l. A device of the character described, including a surrounding casing or shell having an entrant opening, a removable garbage receptacle in said shell uznderneaththe opening, a hinged shutter normally hanging vertically and closing said opening, a separate removable compartment Within the shell, forming a cuspidor, a hingedcover for said cuspidor, a hinged lever, one end of -Which is formed into apenal and a connectionbetween said lever and said cover, through which the lever may be operated to open the shutter.

2. A garbage receptacle including a shell hai/'ing' an inlet opening, a cuspidor arranged Within said shell, a. Waste pipe connected to 'said Cuspidor, a Water inlet pipe formed with a nozzle through which Water may be discharged into the' cuspidor, a shutter 'for said opening, a valve controllingV` said xvater pipe, and a manually operated device connected to said valve and shutter, whereby" they may he simultaneously opened.

3. A garbage receptacle having an entrant opening, a cuspidor arranged underneath said (meningy a drain pipe connected to the cuspidor, a Water inlet pipe 'formed With a nozzle arranged to discharge Water into the cu'spidor, a valve controlling said Water pipe,

a shutter normally closing' said opening` and a manually operatedy device connected to valve and shutter through which they may he simultaneously' opened. 4

4. A garbage' receptacle including a shell having an up'stan'dingf extension Jormedot` vertical front and rear Walls, one of which isfprovided with an entrant opening, a removable receptacle Within the shell beneath said opening, a swinging door normally closing said opening `and being held by gravity in closed position, a cuspidor Within the shell beneath said opening, a hinged shutter pivoted to the wall of the shell and normally covering said cuspidor, a hinged lever, one end of which is formed into a pedal and operative connections between said lever and said cuspidor cover through which the actu ation of the lever operates to open said cover.

A device yof the character described, including a shell having; an entrant opening, a shutter normally closing` said open-ing, a cuspidor arranged Within said y shell, a hinged cover for said cuspidor, said cover having aligned vsleeves at its hingedlend, a water pipe Within the shell, one endof which is overk turned and extends through said sleeves'and on` which ysaid cover operates, a valve 'controlling said water pipe, the over turned end of said Watery pipe between the said sleeves being perforatedV forminga noz.- zle, and a manually operated device' connected to the valve and cover through which they may be simultaneously opened.
