Apart of the legportion 3 beyond the exposed edge'of the holder and fabric is bent transversely forming a transversely 301 'ibility and providinga leaf hinge 7, the exposed surface of which is adhesively seextending line of fold 6 of increased flexcured to theback of the label bearing portion 8.

The leaf hinge sive vwith or only slightly shorter than the longitudinal dimensions of the label bearing portion .8 and is adhesively secured to the back of the label bearing; portion throughout its exposed surface b'yQ-an adhesive 9 interposed between the exposed surface of the leaf hinge 7 and the back of the label bearing portion 8, thereby adding increased strength to the label bearing portion along the adhesive connection between the two, yet permitting the label bearing portion 8 to be turned about the line of increased flexibility 6 between its upper and lower longitudinal edges.

Since the leg port-ion 3 of the label is to be inserted between one surface of the the exposed edges of the cloth at one side holder 1 and the cloth wound thereon, the leaf hinge 7 is adhesively secured to the back of the label bearing portion 8 to present thefold line of increased flexibility 6 longitudinally of the label bearing portion at different distancesfrom its longitudinal edges, so that when the label is placed in position, as indicated in Fig. 4:, the inner part of the label bearing portion, that above the leg 3, in the present instance, will cover of the holder, while the wider part of the label bearing portion, below the leg 3, will cover the end of the holder and also the 7 preferably co-extenedges of the cloth at the-opposite side of. the holder, and to-add strength'to the wider portion ofthe label bearin portion below the leg 3 the leaf hinge is. made of a width to extend from the "more flexible line of fold 6'to the lowerlongitudinal edge of the label bearing portion, as indicated in Figs. 1 and It may be desirable in some cases to form the entire label of a single piece, as indicatediin Figs. 3 and 4, in which case the leaf hinge 7 may be formed integral with the legportion 3 and the label 'portion8, and bent along the line 10 extending longitudinally at one edge of the label bearing portion; in anyevent, however,the leg portion 3 and the label bearing portion 8 are connected by the more flexible line of, fold 6 through the integrally formed leaf hinge 7 which has its exposed surface adhesively secured to the back: of the label bearing portion, as already described,

From the construction described it 'will be apparent that the leg portion 3 of the label and the information o-r'label bearing portion. 8 are connected together by the leaf hinge 7 along the line of increased flexibility 6 extending longitudinally between the upperand lower edges of the label bearing por tion, with theresult that the label bearing portion 8 may swing about the line of increased flexibility 6 into the varying 'positions indicated by Fig. 6, and the label itself as a whole maybe folded into compact form for packing and shipment, as indicated by full lines in Fig. 6,'and when such labels are to be. applied to the cloth wound or rolled upon a holder the label bearing portion 8, previously folded as indicated by which may be readily applied to or removed from its connection with the cloth and holder, but by the flexible hinge connection be- ;tween the leg portion and the labelbearing portion, the latter may adjust itself to any unevenness in the edges of the cloth wound upon the holder when the label is placed in position, and when labels are shipped or stored, thelabel bearing portion 8 may be folded flatwise relative to the leg portion 3 with the single ply of the label bearing portion 8 resting upon the surface of the leg portion, as indicated in Fig. 6, with the reinforced part of the label bearing portion which is adhesively secured to the leaf hinge 7 projecting slightly beyond the end of the leg portion, thereby materially decreasing liability of injury to the label bearing por tion when the parts are in folded position.

What is claimed is:

1. A label for cloth wound upon a holder, comprising a card-board label bearing portion having an exposed face for the label, a card-board leg portion to be inserted between a surface of the holder and the cloth wound thereon and having the part which extends beyond the end of the holder and edges of the cloth bent to provide ahinge leaf integral with the leg portion and connected to the leg portion by a line of fold of increased flexibility, and an adhesive connectin the outer surface of the hinge leaf to theiack of the label bearing portion.

A label for cloth wound upon a holder, comprising a card-board label bearing portion having an exposed face for the label, a card-board leg portion to be inserted between a surface of the holder and the cloth wound thereon and having the part which extends beyond the end of the holder and edges of the cloth bent along a transverse 3. A label for cloth wound upon a holder, comprising a card-board label bearing por-- tion having an exposed face for the label, a card-board leg portion for insertion between a surface of the holder and the cloth wound thereon, a hinge leaf formed integral with one of said portions and bent along a line of fold of increased flexibility, and an adhesive between the surface of the hinge leaf and the other portion for securing the leg and label bearing portions together with the line of increased flexibility forming a hinge between the longitudinal edges of the label bearing portion and nearer one of said edges than the other.
