Be it known that I, EDWARD H. BINNS, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and tat of Pennsylvania, have invented certain w and useful Improvements in Shoes, of *hich the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in shoes, and is an improvement on the invention set forth in my United States Letters Patent No. 1,215,767, granted February 13, L91, for improvements in shoes.

In my said patent the pulling cuff or hand rip is provided with means for permanently spacing the cuff from the shoe and such means are involved in my present provement, an object of which is so to construct the pulling cuff or hand grip that, in the case of lace shoes, a pair of pockets will be formed the front corners of the instep foot opening for holding and concealing the ends of the shoe string knot and preventing them from dropping down and to minimize the liability of theknot becoming untied.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof and illustrating the invention,

In the illustrated forms of my invention, A indicates a shoe top. The pulling cuff comprises an exterior member 1 formed with integral, downwardly extending front ends The integral inner member 3 forms a l: d which is attachable to the margin of 1. shoe top either by stitching l, as shown in 1, or by rivets 10, as siown in Fig.

shoe top with its top bend orfold substantially flush with the top of the upper and with each front end of the pulling cuff adjacent the edge of the instep or front opening of a shoe, whereby a chamber 7 is formed adjacent each upper corner of such opening. The ends of the shoe string knot may be severally tucked in the chamber 7 whereby the tied ends of the shoe string will not dangle. but will be held neatly in place and restrained from becoming untied.

When the outer member 1 is disconnected and lifted up it forms a hand grip for drawing on the shoe.

After the shoe is pulled on the member 1 is turned down neatly and has its front corner portions secured in place as indicated.

The inner member or band 3 of the pull cuff is fiatwise attachable to the outward margin of the shoe top to avoid forming the ridge which would be forn'ied if the inner member or band 3 were secured to the inner margin of the shoe top.

The cuff member 1 is, of course, flexible, and preferably members 1 and 3 are both flexible. The flexible exterior member 1 is lifta'ble upwardly to form the hand grip.

What I claim is:

A lace shoe having a foot opening provided with shoe-string holding means, and being provided at its top edge margin with an exterior, lengthwise folded pull cuff, the inner fold of which is secured to said top edge margin exteriorly thereof, and the outer fold of which is unsecured for forma tion of a finger grip, each end of the folded cuff having two opposed fastener-carrying menbers whereby such members may be detachably secured together to form a shoestring receiving pocket between each two end folds of the cuff; and the cuff end-s being spaced rearwardly of and adjacent the shoestring holding means at the upper end of the foot opening.
