Be it known that we, BERNHARD BARON, a subject ofthe King of Great Britain, residing in London, England, and GEORGE FRED- nnici; BULL, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing in Birmingham, England, have invented certain new and useful linprovements in andfrelating to Boxes 'or Containers for rlobacco Cartridges, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to boxes or`contaiiiers for tobacco cartridges and it has for its object certain improvements in boxes or cases which whilst serving as containers for the said cartridges have combined with them means for thrusting the cartridge intov the pipe.

Hithertosuch cases have had the pipe charging means arranged at one end and externally thereofwhereby when in use an unbalanced effect has been produced under which there lwas a tendency to unduly incline the device with respect t'o the axis of the bowl of the pipe `whereby the bowl was either in'iperfectly charged or a'certain amount of` tobacco escaped without passing into the bowl, 'Moreoven with the known arrangements, the cartridge was contained in a. closed or lsubstantially closed tubular body.

The lpresent invention has for its object certain limprovements designed to secure a more compact box'or case of this type in which, moreover, it is possible to secure a better balance when in use whereby a more eiiicient charging of the pipe may be secured.

The invention further provides certain im` provements in the charging meanswhereby the placing of the cartridges in position for charging and the removal of the outer wrapper after the charging has been effected can be readily and conveniently eiected.

The invention has forvits further object certain improvements in the means whereby the tobacco is removed from the paper during the lilling operation. Y l

charging device is disposed within the body of the case, running transversely of the length or width of said case and preferably disposed in the cent-re of the length or width thereof as the case may be. A plunger of more or less common forni is employed working in a spring or other tubular guide and accessible from the outside of the case. The guide just referred to forms part of or is attached to a body of substantially U shaped cross-sectional outline open upon one side and of such dimensions as to contain the cartridge. The body just referred to terminates in a tapered tubular extension through which the tobacco passes to the pipe. Openings are formed in the box and lid to permit the passage ofthe tobacco to the pipe bowl. TheV head of the filler plunger may also be arranged to form a locking means for said case or box.

In order to remove the tobacco from the paper a roughened surface is provided in the form of small inwardly directed perforations forming surfaces or points which pierce the paper and hold it back whilst the tobacco is thrust therefrom.

A case for tobacco cartridges comprising a body member, a lid member hinged thereto, a pipe filler contained therein and disposed centrally of the length of the said case, said filler having an opening for the introduction of the cartridges, a closure for said opening formed by one of the members of the body of the case, outwardly turned lips at the sides of the said opening, a mouthpiece for the filler formed upon the sides of the case, a roughened surface within said filler comprising a number of points, a plunger for removing the tobacco from the cartridge and forcing it into the pipe, a tubular guide for said plunger, a head upon said plunger, means upon the parts of the .case engaging othei1 means upon said head when the case is closed and the plunger is in inward position whereby Said parts of said case are held in the closed position.

A case for tobacco cartridges comprising a body member,a lid member hinged thereto, a pipe iiller contained therein and disposed centrally of the length of the said case, said iiller having an opening for the introduction of the cartridges, a closure for said opening formed by one of the members of the body of the case, outwardly turned lips at the sides of said opening, a mouthpiece for the filler formed upon the sides of the case, a plunger for removing the tobacco from the cartridge and forcing it into the pipe, a tubular guide for said plunger, a head upon said plunger, said head having a recess upon the underside thereof, and projections upon the lid and body of said case adapted to be engaged by the recess in the headof the plunger and hold the parts in the closed position.

7, A case for tobacco cartridges comprising a body member, a lid hinged thereto, a pipe lfiller contained therein and so disposed therein as to provide cartridge con taining spaces on each side of said filler, said lfiller having an opening for the introduction of the cartridges, a closure for said opening .formed by one of the members of the body of the. case, outwardly turned lips at the sides of said opening, a mouthpiece for the filler formed upon the sides of the case, a plunger for removing the tobacco from the cartridge and forcing it into the pipe. a guide for the tobacco, a tubular guide for said plunger, a head upon said plunger, and means upon the case engaging other means upon said head when the case is closed and the plunger is in inward position whereby said parts of said case are held in the closed position.

A caso for tobacco cartridges,` a pipe filler contained therein and disposed centrally of the length of the said case, said fill er having an opening for the introduction ot the cartridges, closure for said opening other means upon said head when the case is closed and the plunger is in inward position whereby said parts of said case are held in the closed position.

A case for tobacco cartridges comprising a body member, a lid hinged thereto, a pipe filler contained therein and so disposed therein as to provide cartridge containing spaces on each side of said filler, said filler having an opening for the' introduction of the cartridges, a closure for said opening formed by one of the members of the body of the case, outwardly turned lips at the sidesof said opening, a mouthpiece for the filler formed upon the sides of said opening, a plunger for removing the tobacco from the cartridge and forcing it into the pipe, a guide for the tobacco, a tubular guide for the plunger, a head upon said plunger, said head having a recess upon the 'underside thereof, project-ions upon the lid and body of said case adapted to be engaged by the recess in the head of the plunger and hold the parts in the closed position.

A case for tobacco cartridges and pipe filler comprising a back member, a front member, hinges connecting said back and .front members, a pipe filler disposed within and centrally of the length of one member of said case, a tubular portion at the upper end of said filler, a tubular portion at the lower end of said member, an open portion between said tubular portions for the introduction of the cartridge, 'a closure for said open portion formed by one oi the members ot the case, outwardly turned projections at the sides of seid opening, arougghened surface-Within the openporton, a plunger sliding Within the upper tubular portion, a head uponsaid'plunger, said head having a recess in the yunderside thereof, projections upon the members of the case designed-to engage said recess, and a mouthpiece for `the filler formed upon the sides of the case.
