LENNOX LIDDELL, OF GLASGOW?, SCCTLAND.
FILE 0R BINDER FOR LETTERS, DOCUMENTS, OR OTHER SHEETS OR PAIERS.k
Application led April 8,
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LnNNoX LiDnnLL, of 3 Clifton Place, in
the county of the city of Glasgow, Scotland, agent, have invented 5 certain new and useful Improvements in and Connected with Files or Binders for Letters, Documents, or other Sheets or Papers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in binders for letters, documents, or other sheets oi' papers,
and has for its object to provide an improved binder, which is cheap, eiiicient and easily applied, and in which any document can be withdrawn and again inserted into the place from which it was removed, all as hereinafter described with reference to the drawings and pointed out in the claim.
In order that my invention may be properly understood and readily carried into effact, I have hereunto appended drawings, in
which Fig. 1 is a front elevation illustrating my invention.
Fig. 2 is also a of increasing or or sheet.
front elevation in the act withdrawing a document Fig. 3 is an end view.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a channel bar A, in the channel of which is a locking bar B arranged for longitudinal movement and having slots which register with openings in bar A. Needle p the sides of the channel oints C project from the body of the locking bar into one end of said slots. An arm or handle E for operating the locking bar, is
pivoted at I) in the chanfile is a cord G pleated.
, preferably endless and 1920. Serial No. 372,304.
The letters, documents or other sheets or papers H are placed between the cover l? and back, over base I in the usual manner 5 and the cord. C pulled tight. The arm or handle E pivoted to the channel bar at I), is then pressed between the sides of the same, and in so doing causes the pointed ends C to force their way into the cord G v and so irinly retain the documents in their place, as seen more particularly in Fig. 1.
When itis desired to remove any document l'I or insert any fresh ones,- the arm or handle E ispulled out, as in Fig. 2, and in so doing moves the locking bar so as to withdraw the pins C from the cord Cr and n so enable the file to be opened and documents to be inserted or removed, as may be desired.
A lock may be provided to prevent the iile being opened.
By my improvements there are no obstructionable parts to be in the way as with many others in existence.
Claim:
In a binder, a channel bar to receive one edgeof a cover and having openings in its sides, a base also having openings, a loching bar arranged for longitudinal move- -ment in the channel of the channel bar and having slots which register with'the openings of the channel bar and also havingneedle points projecting into said slots at one end thereof, a binding cord passing through the openings ofthe channel bar and base and lalso through the slots of the lockingbar, and an operating lever for the locking bar, arranged in the channel of the channel bar and also in a recess in one side of the locking bar, and serving to move the locking bar to cause the points thereof to enter the binding cord.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signa-r ture inpresence of two witnesses.
LENNCX LIDDELL.
