INDEX TAB.
Application filed June 6,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES BARKER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Index Tabs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to index tabs, and has for its main object the provision of a construction having means for guiding and carrying an index slip and transparent means for protecting this index slip. Other objects of the invention reside in the novel arrangements and combinations of parts as more fully hereinafter setrfort-h.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an enlarged section through an index tab embodying my invention.
In general, my construction comprises a projection extending outwardly from the edge of a card, and a return bent strip of transparent material over the projection and secured to the card and having its return bend spaced from the outer edge of the projection, the arrangement being such as to permit of insertion of an index slip between the projection and return-bent strip with the slip adapted to slidably engage the outer edge of the projection so that its edges can not engage in the crevices formed by securing the return-bent strip of transparent material to the card.
As shown in the figure, 9 is the projection extending outwardly beyond the upper edge of the card 10, this projection being formed of suitable material such as.
1919. Serial No. 302,098.
paper and being secured to the card'by the strip 11 of gummed cloth. The return-bent 40 strip .12 of transparent material over the projection 9 has one side secured to the strip 11 of gummed cloth and the opposite side secured to the card 10 bythe strip 13 of gummed cloth.
WVith' the construction as shown the double strip of transparent material is made in any suitable length, as are also the projection, the index slip, and the gummed cloth strips. The user buys this material and cuts the same to the desired length and then assembles the same in the relation desired.
Vhat I claim as my invention is:
In an index card, the combination with a card, of a guiding strip secured to said card and extending outwardly beyond one edge thereof, and a double strip of transparent material secured to said card and extending over said guiding strip, said double strip having its fold spaced from the outer edge of said guiding strip, and a double index slip adapted to slidably engage the space between said guiding strip and doubled slip of transparent material 5 and to ride upon the outer edge of said guiding strip, the lower edges of said index slip being spaced from the junction between said transparent material and card suiticiently to prevent the same from engaging in the crevice formed between the transparent material and card.
' In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES BARKER.
