SHARE n'rrnonranur.
' Application filed July 10, 1922.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MICHAEL JAMES CooNnY, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Irma, in the Province of Alberta and Dominion of Canada, have invented new and useful Improvements in Share Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention has reference to 1 plows.
My primary object is to produce a means for facilitating the attachment and removal of the mold-board from a plow share.
Other objects and advantages will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a view of a plow in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is a fragmentary side elevation looking toward the land side of the plow.
Figure 4 is an enlargedplan view of the locking device, parts being in section.
Figure 5 is a sectional view on the line 5-5 of Figure 4:.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on the line 6-6 of Figure 1.
Figure 7 is a fragmentary perspective view of a portion of the mold board and the frog.
Figure 8 is a perspective view of theshare.
Referring now to the drawings in detail the share is indicated by the numeral 1, the same terminating in the usual point 2, the point being arranged downwardly and having its inner side at an angle with respect to the longitudinal plane of the share proper. For distinction this flanged end of the point is indicated by the numeral 3 and as disclosed by the drawings the same is provided from its inner edge with a downwardly rounded notch 4:.
The mold-board is indicated by the numeral 5, and in the present instance has secured thereto the frog 6, the latter also carrying the landside 7. The frog being arranged inwardly with respect to the mold-board provides a shoulder 8 therebetween, and this shoulder is designed to rest on the upper edge of the share, while the shoulder provided between the frog and land-side may rest on the upper edge of the flanged side of the point 3.
erial No. 573,844.
My improvement is designed for application to any size or make of plow ofthe two bolt type, and in carrying out my invention I arrange in the bolt openings headed bolts 9. These bolts have their heads counter-sunk in the share 1, and are engaged by threaded sockets 10 whose outer ends are headed, as at 11. By reference to the drawings it will be noted that the heads 11 of the adjustable bolts are arranged at right angles with respect to each other, the same passing through elongated openings 12 and 13 respectively in the frog 6. On the land-side 7 there is a projecting stud 14 that is designed to be r ceived in the rounded notch 4, and on the inner side of the plow there are adjustable means which are received in the openings 15 in the heads 11 of the adjustable bolts for holding the share on the frog; This means includes a finger 16 pivotally connected, as at 17 to a rod 18. Preferably the rod comprises two adjustable sections, the outer section having an angle end in the nature of a hook 19. The joint between the finger l6 and the rod 18 permits of the swinging of the rod on the finger in only one direction. The joint is broken and the finger is passed through the opening 15 in the head of one of the adjustable bolts, the sectional rod 18 is adjusted so that its angle end 19 will be received in the opening in the head of the second bolt. To hold the finger and rod in longitudinal alignment, and the ends of these elements in engagement with the openings or eyes in the heads of the ad justable bolts, a spring 20 is secured to the fiiiger and attached to the inner side of the It is believed that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawin s will fully set forth the construction, operation and advantages of the improvement to those skilled in the art to which such inventions relate so that further detailed description will not be required. It is to be added, however, that the nature of the invention is such as to render the same susceptible to such minor changes in form, proportion, material employed, etc, as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
Having described the invention, I claim In a means for detachably securing a mold-board to a plow share, the combination with a share having a point whose land side is provided with a downwardly rounded notch, said share having spaced bolts each ceive therethrough the heads of the adjustable bolts, a tapered finger received in the opening in one of the heads of the bolt, an adjustable rod having an angle end received in the opening of the other bolt, a joint connection between the rod and finger, and
spring means between the finger and frog normally holding the finger in longitudinal alignment with the rod and preventing the breaking of the joint therebetween.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
MICHAEL JAMES COONEY.
