UNITED STATES @PATENT OEErcE.
CHARLES HANSON,.OF ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO FREDERICK APPELQUIST, F SAME PLACE.
PLOW;
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 264,828, dated September 19, 1882.
Application filed March 27, 1882. (Model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES HANsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rock Island, in the county of Rock Island and State ot' Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe saine, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part 1o of this specification, and to the letters and ligures ot' reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a perspective View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same; Fig. 3, an under plan view; I5 Fig. 4, aperspective view,in detail, of the landside and frog; and Fig. 5, asimilar view ofthe plow-point. A
The present invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in plows, 2o which will be hereinafter described, and subsequently pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Arepresents the mold-board ot' the plow, and B the share,
both ot' which are bolted to a frog. C, asshown'.
in Fig. 3; also to the curved end a of a brace, I). The end et ot' the brace I) is curved to such degree as to conform to the curvature ot' the mold-board and share at the point of attach ment, and the opposite end ot' said brace 3o has a right-angle flange, b, for boltingitto the l landside-plate E. Thislandside-plate and the frog C are cast or otherwise formed together, and have bolted tothemaplow-point,F, which covers the frog and joins the share B at its inner edge or extremity. The upper portion ofthe mold-board A is bolted to an angle-bar, Gr, which is in turn bolted to a standard, H, said standard Vbeing bolted to the landsideplate E.
4o Projecting horizontally from the inner side ot' the landside-plate E' is a slotted plate, c, through which passes a bolt, d, its screwthreaded end entering a screw-threaded hole in a base-plate, 1. This construction enables the landside to give and take land as required,
and share by theangle-bar G, brace D, and frog C to the landside-plate forms a very strong, rigid, and durable fastening, rendering the parts less liable to injury by continued use of 5o the plow or by the strain thereon from plowing.
The frog C,it should beunderstood, is welded to the landside-plate E', or cast with it, and consequently it is not necessary to bend the frog at an acute angle to form a vertical and lnteralside to enable it to be bolted to the landside-plate. This forms not only a more rigid connection between the t'rog and land- Side-plate without danger of workingloose, but presents a much stronger support for the mol-d- 6o board and share.
Theentire plow, constructed in accordance with my invention, possesses great superiority of strength and durability Without increasing the cost of manufacture, the several parts being either made of malleable iron, wroughtiron, or cast-steel.
It should further `be noticed that the point F is formed separately and afterward bolted to the landside-plate and frog, and can be re- 7o placed by another when required.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. In a plow, the landside-pla'te E', formed 75 in one piece with the Vfrog C, and the standard H, in combination with the mold-board A, share B, and recessed point F, formed to interlock the share and landside E, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.V 8o
2. In a plow, the combin`ation, with the landside thereof, having the slotted plate c, ofthe vibrating base-plate I and screw-bolt d, sub stantially as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name ini the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES IIANSON. y
