VAPOR BATH.
iipplicationfiled March 29,1923. Serial No. 628,585.
canopy adapted to be disposed over the tub in the taking of the vapor bath. 1 r
The general object'of my present invention is to provide a Vapor bath of the indicated class improved in various particulars with respect tothe meansto support a rest or slab and with respect to the canopy'and its supporting means. The nature of the invention and its distinguishing features and advantages will clearly appear as the description proceeds. Reference is to be had to the accompany-; ing drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section of vapor bath appurtenances embodying my invention showing the same applied in position on a tub; V
Figure 2 is a transverse vertical section as indicated by the line 22, Figure 1;
Figure 3 is an inverted plan View of the canopy with a portion of the supporting means in horizontal section;
Figure 4 is a detail in section on the line 4-4, Figure 1;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary view showing in elevation a part of the supporting means for the canopy.
In carrying out my invention in accordance with the illustrated example, I provide a series of hangers 10 generally of U-shape and formed with curved ends to hook on edges of a bathtub A at opposite sides. Two of said hangers are shown in the present example and an additional hanger 110 generally of similar form to be hereinafter particularly referred to. The curved. ends 11 are covered in practice with a sleeve 12 of rubber, a similar sleeve 112 being provided on the curved ends 111 of the hanger 110. The hangers 10 are adapted when placed on the tub A to support a slab, slats, or the like,
there being a slatted structure 13 having cross cleats l4 thereon, said slats resting on the several hangers to support the one taking'thebath suspendedin the tub A.
A canopy 15 is provided of suitable fabric and formed with a longitudinal slit 16 through which ones head may protrude.
The canopy 15 is provided with an elastic tape or strip 17 extending about the same at the edge at three sides, that end adjacent the slit 16 having a transverse elastic strip 117 disposed on the canopy inward fromthe adjacent end edge of said canopy. The elastic edging 17 at the end adjacent the slit 16has free ends adaped to be tied into a knot as indicated at 217. The elastic edging with cross strip 117 is adapted to beystretched about the tub A beneath the usual edge flange thereof, the cross strip 117 serving to hold that end of the canopy 15 in position even though the knotted ends 217 be united.
The canopy 15 has applied thereto stiffening means adaptedto be-supported on the tub and additional stiffening and Support in means supported on the hanger 110 as follows: Crossing wires 18 are held to the canopy at the under side by suitable means such as fabric strips 19 encasing said wires except at the lower ends. The lower ends 20 of the wires 18 are directed laterally inward and are curved to effectively rest upon and engage the upper edge of the tub A. The inturned ends 20 are covered by rubber sleeves 21. Extending directly transversely of the canopy 15 and therefore crossing the Wires 18 is a bowed spring 22 held in the illustrated example by a casing strip 23 of fabric applied to said canopy. At each lower end of the bowed spring 22 is a reduced and shouldered terminal 26 adapted to engage a keeper 25 stamped up from the terminal portion 24 of the adjacent curved end 111 of the hanger 110.
The canopy 15 is formed with a transverse slit 27 at the foot end of the said. canopy and a flap 28 is provided on the canopy and secured thereto at one side of the slit. Said flap may enter through the slit and lie for the major portion at the under side of the canopy for the efiective closure of the slit and the flap may be ma-. nipulated to permit ones hand to be entered through the canopy from outside for turning the bathtub faucets. Similarly, a slit 29 is formed longitudinally at a side of the canopy 15 through which one of the legs of the person taking the bath may be protruded if desired. A flap farrangedsimilarly to the flap 28 is provided at the slit 29, In the top of the canopy adjacentto the center is a hole 31 normally closed by a fiap3 2 on the canopy at the under side. Said hole. 31 permits through the canopy to the interior for va rious arrangements of lights for heating or for giving color effects in the treatment ot a patient.
I preferin practice toiemploy additional;
stifiener bows on the-canopy l5 hear: the ends.-. Said -boWs33 are held by housing strips 34.1 otfabric sevvedor cemented to the underside of the canopy. The lower ends of; bows 33 have arched lateral members 35 to rest .on the edge of the bathtub (A).
I would state in conclusion that While the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein illustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied Without departure from the spirit of the invention as defined in the'appended claims.
of conductor Wires being run" tub, meansezgtending. about said canopy at the edge to engage the bathtub, stiffener .means on the canopy adapted-to rest on the. bathtub, .andadditional stiffener means on the'canopy adapted to engage one of said ,ghangers.
. 2. Inade'vice ofthe class described, a
canopy adaptedtobe positioned over abath :tub; crossed. U-shaped stiffener elements on said canopy, certain of said stiffener ele- -mehts-having means at their lower ends to engage thebathtub at opposite side edges,
f and anadditional U-shaped stiffener element Y crossing the first elements; together with means detachably engageable' With said additional stiffener element-and adapted to rest on a bathtub.
