ADJUSTABLE SHAMPOO TRAY Filed Sept. 23, 1936 ATTORNEYS Patented July 20, 1937 UNITED STATES mists ADJUSTABLE SHAMPOO TRAY Application September 23, 1936, Serial No. 102,211
3 Claims.
This invention relates to shampooing trays, and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which may be easily and quickly adjusted to fit a persons neck so that the hair may be supported thereby for draining and will prevent water from passing between the tray and the neck and may be worn without discomfort and may be manufactured and sold at a low cost.
With these and other objects in view, this invention consists in certain novel features of con- 'struction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view partly in section illustrating a shampooing tray constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the line 2--2 of Figure 1. V
Figure 3 is an end view illustrating the discharge or drain end of the tray.
Figure 4 is an end View showing theneck engaging end of the tray.
Figure 5 is a detail sectional view illustrating means of mounting to the neck encircling elements cushion elements taken on the line 55 of Figure 1.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary plan view showing the means of attaching the cushion elements to the neck encircling elements.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral l indicates a. tray element having side marginal flanges. 2 which terminate at one end of the tray element toform a discharge end 3. The opposite end of the tray has a neck notch d and the marginal flanges gradually merge into the edges of the. notch. Struck from. the bottom of the tray element is an ear 5 forming a pivot support and pivoted thereto are curved neck encircling plates ii terminating at their free ends in extensions i normally occupying positions beyond the end of the tray. Pivoted to the plates 6 and to the extensions are curved links 3 operating in slots 9 formed in the tray element. The pivotal connections of the links to the extensions 1 carry finger pieces I!) disposed downwardly with respect to the tray element and also one of the pivots forms an anchor for one end of a chain or flexible element H while the other pivot acts as a keeper or projection to enter any one of the links of the. chain for adjustably connecting the plates 6. The opposed edges of the plates 6 are arcuately curved to readily receive and encircle Tubular cushion elements M are mounted on the 5 flanges l2 and retained thereon by the ears it.
In operation, the chain is detached and the plates 6 swung apart so that the device may be readily adjusted to a persons neck. The extensions l of the plates 6 are then moved in a direction towards each other until the cushion elements it tightly contact the neck. The chain is then secure-d thereby firmly anchoring the tray element in position on a. persons neck for receiving the draining water from the hair, the water being prevented from passing between the tray element and the neck of the person by the cushion elements M contacting the neck. The movements of the plates 6 can be easily accomplished through the manipulation of the finger pieces ill.
Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A shampooing tray comprising a. tray element having a discharge end and its opposite end notched to receive a persons neck, plates pivoted on the tray element at the notched end thereof and having arcuately curved opposed edges to en circle. a persons neck, cushion elements mounted on said edges of the plates to contact the neck, and means for adjustably and detachably connecting the plates.
2. A shampooing tray comprising a tray element having a discharge end and its opposite end notched to receive a persons neck, plates pivoted to the tray element and having arcuately curved opposed edges to encircle a persons neck, cushion elements mounted on said edges of the plates to contact the neck, extensions formed on said plates, said tray having slots, links pivoted to the plates and extensions operating through said slots, and means for detachably and adjustably connecting the extensions.
3. A shampooing tray comprising a tray element having a discharge end and its opposite end notched to receive a persons neck, plates pivoted to the tray element and having arcuately curved opposed edges to encircle a persons neck, cushion elements mounted on said edges of the plates to contact the neck, extensions formed on said plates, said tray having slots, links pivoted to the plates and extensions operating through said slots, a flexible element secured to one of the extensions and detach-ably and adjustably connected to the. other extension.
