HAIR-RinsiNG MEANS.
Application led December 2'?, 1921. Serial No. 525,115.
To all whom t may concern."
Be it known that I, ANGEL nnNTnLAsoo, a citizen of Cuba, resident of New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful -flair- Rinsing Means, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to improvements in hair rinsing'means and constitutes an improvement on my copending application, Serial No. 519,455. Its principal-`ob ject is to provide a convenient device to be supported around the head of a patron and making a water tightconnection around the neck so that water or any other rinsing liquid may be freelyapplied to Vthe hair without wetting the clothes of the patron, a suitable outlet being provided for the liquid. IWhile in my co-pending application I secured the bowl around the head substantially parallel with and underneath of the hair-line I have found that in many cases it would be practical to provide a larger bowl and to secure the same around the neck of a patron and it is the object of the present invention to disclose a design suited for that purpose.
With this object in view I have illustrated the preferred form of my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical cross-section through my device, the position of a head being indicated in dotted lines; Figure 2 a top plan view of a ring forming the bottom of my device; Figure 3 a plan view of a flexible collar fitting around the neck; Figure 4 an enlarged sectional detail view of a spring locking device; Figure 5 a top plan view of my device;
Figure 6 a perspective view of the same; Figure 7 a vertical cross-section through the lower portion of a modified form of my'device; Figure 8 a plan view of a flexible collar used in said modified form and Figure 9 a plan view of a second flexible collar used on top of that shown in Figure 8. While I have shown only the preferred forms of my invention I wish to have it understood that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the claims hereto attached without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to Figure 1 it willl be seen that the various portions of my device are fitted together to form the bowl (1), designed to surround the head of the person to be shampooed, havingan open top (2) and fitting closely. around the -neckr so that no liquid may escape between the bowland the neck.v 'Ihe bottom portion of the bowl comprises a ring (3) ofk solid material suchas -wood f provided with two annular recesses (4) and 4 (6), one facing yinward and the other outward. receive the lower rim of a collar (7) which is preferably made of elastic material. such as rubber .and the rim of which is' firmly secured to the recess- (4) byfmeans of a spring ring (8). The opening of the collar is of the size of the ordinary human neck or a little smaller so as to tightly lit around the same and is reinforced asishown at (11).
vrIhis ring (3) is preferablyzsupported on the-body of the personusing the4 device by meansl of suitable wire or the like members (12') "and (13), theformeradaptedto `rest' on the breast while the latter rest on' Ithe rl-he inner recess (4) is adapted 'to back.` These supports are of such dimension that the ring (3) is disposed slantingly as shown in Figure 1, in a plane substantially parallel to the lower liaw line. y The body or side portion (14) of the bowl is preferably made of flexible material secured to and suspended from a top ring (16), the lower rim being fixed to the outer recessA (6) by means of a ring (17).
The 1 top ring 16) is held in spaced relation'to the bottomring by means of a plurality of upright members (18) screwed into the' bottom plate as shown at (19). It will be seenk from the drawing that theholes y (21) in the upper ring (16) engaging the uprights (18) are of somewhat larger diameter than the uprights so as to allow ample play and of sliding motion of the ring (16) relative to the uprights even if the ring should, during the operation, lose its horizontal position. When the ring (16) is pushed upward as-high as the flexible l ible ring, the outer circumference ofvwhich f is secured in any suitable manner to the member (14) as shown at (26) while the inner margin is turned onfitself so as to be.
adap'ed to receive an elastic ribbon fitting' over the forehead and having celluloid or the like ends turned downward shown at (28) so that the latter may be placed behind the ears. lt will be seen that in this manner the shield (24) protects not only the face and the earsD but also prevents water from passing` through the opening' YMythe bottom of the device an outlet is` prox/vided connected with a suitable hose (3i) `for the discharge of the rinsing water. ln Figures 7, 8 and 9 is shown a modified form of my device in which an annular groove (32) is substituted for the ring and in which the flexible side of the bottom and the collar are securedto the groove by means of suitable buttons (36). The collar (8) is shown in detail in Figure 8 from which .it will be seen that it is provided with a slit in front. This slit facilitates the placing of the collar and the whole apparatus around the neck, and to close it so as to prevent water from passing` through the same l provide a second collar shown in detail in Figure' 9 which is placed between the neck and the collar (Se) and extends downwardly suiliciently far to cover theslit (37). The upright members (39) are bifurcated at their lower ends and slipped overl the member (32) to be fastened thereto by means of screws (Lil).v
l claim:
l. Collapsible hair rinsing means comprising a top ring and a bottom ring, flexible head-enclosingA *connecting means between the same and spacing members adapted to slidably engage one of them having` yielding means associated therewith for maintaining the rings in spaced relation.
2. ln a device of the character describecb bowl supporting,` means comprising a ring of solid material having an internal flexible ring associated therewith for watertightly engaging the neck of a person, rigid upright members for supporting the HeXible side of the vbowl and means for water-1 tightly securing the side to the ring.
3. ln a device of the character described, bowl supporting; means comprising a ring of solid material and supports for the same adapted to rest on the body of a person so as to maintain the ring in a slanting position substantially parallel to the lower jaw line. f
