-My invention relates toV improvements in pocket reenforcements in pocketed garments. 'f
Where the pockets are actually used tocar-y ry objects that havefsomegweight, the lower' margins of the pocketl opening usuallystretches and becomes A`misshap'en so as to mar the appearance ofthe garment generally and cause the jects. Y
It is an object, therefore, ofmy invention pocket toI catch uponprojecting'ob- Y to provide a device for reenforcing the margins of the opening ofV a pocket'so as to interfere as little as lpossiblev with the easy use of the pocket `andvto provide an adequate recniorcement to prevent stretching and tear-l ing-especially of the lower margin .of the pocket opening. f
In the drawings: f VFigure 1 is a view-of a portion of a garment exhibiting a pocketopening provided i with my invention.
Figure 2 is a similar view in detail with portions of the garmentl and pocket margin out away to show a particular preferred installation oi my reenforcing means.
Figure 3 is an alternative structure for use in certain types of garments.
Lilie parts are identilied by the same ref-r erence characters throughout 'the various views.
I have shown in the drawings only a portion of a fabric or leather garment 1 provided with a pocket 2 which may be formed as a con- `c'ealed pocket or as a patch pocket,l the opening being formed merely as a slot 3. lIt isV at the top and bottom margins of the pocket opening 3 that my improved reenforcing means is installed as indicated generally at 5 and 6 in Figure 1.
The reen-forcing strip 9 vwhich I provide in my construction is of'light, thin,l flexiblev material preferably or. thin steel, Celluloid or so-called whale bone and is of substantial width. 4 About this strip of reenforcing ma- F terial Iprovide an encasing tube 8 oi fabric,
preferably some soft long wearing material in which the reenforcing strip is snugly secured and the entire assembled strip and tube are in turn held infplace along the upper lor lower margins 5 and 6 of the pocket by va fold is er endicular to the strains lacedu onthe body 192i'. "serial troyes-1.5135.y`
of thematerial of which the garmentV is made7 or if'preferred, a folclor welt 7 of leather or Y "other long lwearing material may be sewedV around'the tube 8.
y The strips of reenforcing material when place alongthemargns yof the pocket are positioned that the Vedges ofthe strips registerfwith each other to closek the slotted Opeliing 3 and therefore the 'width ofithe'stripg) inf: i. so
the margins of the-pocket by weights'therein. n'
' Preferably my'reenforcing strip should be installed in bothv the upper -and thelower margins offa pocket thereby `insuring a straight even closure of the pocket opening. but mere reenforcen'ient of the. lower margin will tend to hold that margin .closely against of the garment and in.y closed position as indicated in F igure. y n vAs an additional reeniorcement to assist the preservation of the general form of a Vgarment'equipped with my 'orm of pocket struc-vY As shown in Figure 2 in garments provided j with reenforcing strips in bothmargins oiV the pocket opening l leave` a space-at 14;-to permit easy access to the pocket by providing room `forthc lingers ot the user to be inserted. Y
A pocket equipped with my improveddee., vice will open easily under lateral pressure so as to admit objects into the pocket, for theextreme lateral flexibilityl of the reenforced edges will permitV both the top vand bottom edges of the pocket opening to iieXV to anyy reasonable extent.A It will be-obvious however, thatv no matter how heavy the load in t-he pocket the downward'pull cannot besuicient to cause 'the lower margin ofthe pocket openingY to sag. Under the securing influence of, y
