COLLAR FASTENER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JAMns J. FURLONG, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tacoma, in the county of Pierce and State of Washington, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar Fasteners, of which the "followin is a specification.

This invention comprehends the provision of a collar fastener adapted for use at the back of the neck band of the shirt, the fastener being of novel design to permit the collar to be quickly and easily attached to the shirt or removed therefrom. and when attached to hold the collar from riding or moving upwardly on the collar band.

The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 10 in sectional view dicates the neck band of a shirt which isprovided with the usual button hole 11. The

The fastener forming the sub ect mater of the present invention comprises a plate 14 Serial No. 496,378.

which is elongated and slightly curved to conform to the curvature of the neck band and collar, and thereby provide for the comtort of the wearer. The plate 14: is rounded on its ends and adapted to be arranged beneath the collar band as illustrated, while the tongue 15 projecting from the lower edge of the plate is adapted to be arranged exteriorly of the collar band, after being passed through the button hole 11. The tongue 15 is offset at its point of juncture with the plate as at 15 so that the tongue may be properly positioned for use. In other words, when the tongue 15 is passed through the button hole 11, it lies substantially in a plane parallel with the neck band. In order to prevent the collar from riding upwardly on the neck band 01" the shirt, the tongue 15 is provided with lateral extensions 16 projecting "from the opposed edges of the tongue, and which extensions 16 together with the tongue 15 are passed through the button hole of the collar as illustrated. In practice, the plate 14 is arranged beneath the neck band of the shirt with the tongue and extensions arranged exteriorly thereof after being passed through the button hole 11 of said neck band. In order to facilitate the association of the collar with the shirt, the fastener is arranged initially in the manner illustrated in Figure 3 by inserting the fastener in the button hole of the neck band with the tongue 15 positioned as shown. The tongue can then be readily passed through the button hole 13 of the collar, and the collar subsequently turned to bring the button hole 13 thereon in parallel relation to the extensions 16, after the tongue 15 has been passed through the button hole of the collar. The extensions can then be easily passed through the butt-on hole 13 of the collar, after which the tongue is then moved to its normal position as'shown in Figure 4., and the collar turned to position the button hole 13 in right angular relation to the eaten sions 16. The fastener is very simple in con struction and can be manufactured and sold at a very nominal cost.

While it is believed that from the "foregoing description the nature and advantages of the invention will be readily apparent, I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to what is herein shown and described, and that such changes may be resorted to When desired as fall Within the scope of What is claimed.

What I claim is:

The collar fastener of the class described comprising an arcuate shaped plate rounded on its ends, an off set portion inclined for horizontal connection intermediate the ends of the plate, a tongue depending from the ofl' set portion and being broadened at its 10 tnre.
