Application ledctober `7, 1922. Serial N'o. 593,017.
An object of this invention is to produce i a simple, cheap and effective holder for safety razor blades, to permit of the stropping of the blades.
To the attainment-of the foregoing,l and other objects which will present themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference is to be had to the dravu'ng which accompanies and which forms part of this application. j
In the drawingz- Figure l is a side elevation of the improvement, with parts broken away and parts in section.
Figure 2 is an end view thereof` Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure l.
Figure 4t is a perspective view member.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the plate provided with the tongue for spreading the jaws. j
It. will be noted as the nature of the inof the jaw vention is disclosed that the parts constitut ing the same are removably associated, so that the device may be readily cleaned and worn or broken parts replaced.
Referring' now to the drawingin detail. the numeral l designates a handle which is preferably threadedly connected with the cross sectionally rounded end of what I will term a head member The head member is i' -eXteiisive with the handle, and from its said rounded end 2, the saine is elliptical in cross section, as indicated by the numeral 5l. rIhe elliptical body 3 is provided with a longitudinal slot le entering` from one of its edges and commimicatiug with a wider slot or opening` 5. spaced intervals, upon its edge jopposiite that provided with the slot Ll., with lugs 6, the said lugs passing through openings provided therefor in the rounded body portion 6 of a spring' member. The member 6 has its side disposed inwardly with respect to each other, whereby the said sides provide jaws 7 respectively.
`when forced toward each other blade ll to be received (tion and which is provided with The body 3 is provided, atr
rThe head has arranged therearound a compressible strip 8 whichis also 1n contacting engagement with the innerfaces of the jaws 7. n
Alsoin contacting engagement with each of the jaws 7 `there a metal plate 9 of a cross sectional contour complementary to that of the jaws, the said plates 9 contacting` with the strip 8. Each of the plates 9 has its upperedge centrally :formed with an extension in the nature of a tongue l0, the said tongue passingthrough elongated slots arranged centrally in the rounded body portion 6 of the jaws 7. The tongues l0, spring the jaws 7 away from each other', permitting,` a between the ends of the compressible element 8 and into the slots or openings t and 5. A release of the tongues will cause the jaws to force the eompressible strip against the sides of the blade l1, thereby -eifectively'holding the said blades in the device to permit of the stropping of the blade.
It is thought that the foregoing descri tion, when taken in connection with t e drawing will fully set forth the construe- `tion of the improvement, and it is further thought that Vthe operation thereof will be apparent to those skilled in the art to'which this invention relates.
. Havingf described the invention, I claim In a device for holding safety razor blades for the stropping` thereof, a head having a body portion which is elliptical in cross seca longi tudinal slot to receive a safety razor blade therein, a eompressible sheet surrounding' the head and projecting beyond the slotted edge thereof, a spring' metal member having,` a cross sectionally rounded body portion disposed over the sheet, said spring member having` its sides directed toward each other to provide jaws, means removably connecting' the head to the jaw carryinrejmember, plates on the innersides of the jaws havingy central tongues projecting through openings in the body of the jaws, a handle removably connected to the head.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
ERNEST VOGES.
