Description

Mar. 20 I o. TAGLIAFERRY HQLDER FOR RAZOR BLADES i atented 2 9, 1223.
OBEST'ES TAGLIAFERRY, OF CINCIENATI, 03110.
HOLDER FOR RAZOR BLADES.
Application filed May 12, 1921. Serial No. 468,959.
T all whom. it may concern.
Be it known that I, Onns'rns Taenmrnnnr, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Razor Blades, of which the following is ,a specification.
My invention relates to holders for razor blades and more particularly to holders for holding safety razorblades, during the operation of stropping or honing.
Holders for razor'blades have heretofore been in use, but they have not been so constructed, as to permit a certain yielding action when the blade is pressed into contact with. a strop or hone.
It is the object of my invention to provide a holder having a ready means of securing the blade therein and at the same'time permit a yielding of the blade when the same is forced into contact with the strop, further to cause the blade to contact the strop with a uniform pressure, and further to seavoid injury thereto.
My invention consists in the provision of a holder for safety razor blades comprising a blade carrying member having a clamp yieldable securing means for the clamp member, whereby the blade is permitted to slightly yield so as to avoid injury thereto,
and obtain a better cutting edge.
My invention further consists in the parts and combination and arrangement thereof as herein described and claimed.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of my improved device shown in open relation.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the parts in closed relation and a razor blade inserted therein.
Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal section 0 the same taken on the line 33 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a cross section of the same taken on the line 44 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a cross section taken on the line 5*5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view illustrating the manner in which the razor blade is held in the holder, and is permitted to yield when applied to the strop.
Fig. 7 is a vertical cross section of the same.
cure the blade within the holder so as to member yieldably mounted thereon, and a Fig. 8 is a perspective view of a safety razor blade.
In the embodiment of my invention as illustrated a blade carrying member .10 has pivoted thereto a clamp member 11. The blade carrying member has a blade holding portion 12 which has projections 13 thereon. The clamp member is pivoted as by a pin 14 passing through a hole 15 in a lug l6 thereon received in a slot 17 of the blade carrylng member. The pin 14 is tightly fitted in holes 18 of lugs 19 integrally formed on the blade carrying member, to either side of the slot 17. The clamp member has depressions 20 therein correspondingly located to loosely receive the projections 13 on the blade carrying member. The clamp member has a lug 22 at its end adapted to be received in a guide slot 23 in the hand grip 24 of the blade carrying member. The clamp memberis readily raised by grips 28 formed therein.
A safety razor blade 25 has apertures 26, and cutting edges 27 thereon. The blade is received on the blade holding portion 12 of the blade carrying member so as to permit the projections 13 to enter apertures 26 therein. The clamp member is then brought down upon the blade. Those parts of the projections 13 that extend beyond the blade enter the depressions 20 in the clamp member. Means are provided whereby the blade is yieldably held between the clamp member and the blade carrying member. This has the advantage of permitting the blade to adjust itself at a proper angle to the surface of the strop or hone in the action of stropping. It also has the advantage that the pressure exerted by the blade on the strop is constant, even though the pressure exerted by the person using the holder be varied. This is accomplished by an elastic locking ring 30 having endwise movement over the hand grip 24. After the clamp member is closed down upon the blade. the elastic locking ring is pushed forward so as to bring the lug 22 withinlthe same. When the holder is applied to the strop a reciprocating rocking movement is imparted thereto as well as a to and fro movement, so as to alternately bring the cutting edges 27 of the blade into contact with the strop. In this movement downward ressure is exerted by the blade against the strop. This pressure causes a slight movement of the clamp member" away from the blade carrying member against the tension of the elastic ring. In this manner the blade is tilted oppositely with relation to the holder during strokes in opposite directions. The blade is always yieldably held in a clamped position by the elastic ring. My improved holder forms a ready means of holding razor blades While stropping the same and further provides a much better cutting edge, due to the yieldable manner in which the blade is held,
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a holder for razor blades, a blade carrying member. projections thereon, a hand grip on said carrying member, a clamp member having its end pivotally mounted on the end of said carrying member, and having depressions therein in which said projections are received, a lug on said clamp member, said hand grip having a slot in which said lug is received and whereby said clamp member is guided and held from latera], movement and means adjacent the free end of the clamp member to yieldably liold said clamp member to said blade carrying member, substantially as set forth and for the purpose specified.
2. In a holder for razor blades, a blade carrying member adapted to hold a razor blade, projections thereon, a hand grip on said carrying member, a clamp member having its end pivotally mounted on the end of said carrying member, and having depressions therein in which said projections are received, a lug on said clamp member, said hand grip having a slot in which said lug is received whereby said clamp member is guided and held from lateral movement, an elastic ring received over said hand grip and slidable endwise thereon adapted to encircle the free end part of said clamp member whereby a blade held between said blade carrying member and said clamp member is permitted to yield when pressure is applied thereto, substantially as set forth and for the purpose sp ecified.
