Application filed February 16, 1921. Serial No. 145;392. j
T 0 all whom itma z concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM TAYLOR, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, and a resident of Swinton, Manchester, in the county of Lancaster, England,
have invented'certain new; and useful Improvements in Washing Plungers,. Dollies, and the like, of which the followingis a specification.
This invention has reference to washing plungers, dollies and the like, and it has for its object to provide improvements in'such devices whereby they are of considerably stronger construction, more convenient in use, andless liable to fracture than those at present used. 7
According to this invention, a washing flunger, dolly or the like comprises side members suitably spaced attheir lower ends or edges and connected together by or fitted with rods, bars 'or the like forming a cagelike structure. The side members are preferably inclined towards each other, and taper upwardly so that their upper ends or edges lie close to or incontact with each other and the connecting rods, bars or the like may be arranged at or near their front and rear and/or loweredges. l V
In the accompanying drawings, Fig. lis a perspective view andFig. 2 a transverse section of one construction of plunger, dolly or the like in accordance with the invention. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section, and Fig.4 a plan illustrating amodified means of securing the handle of the plunger, dolly or the like.
Referring to the drawings, the, side members a consist of two pieces of wood inclined upwardly towards each otherin the form of an inverted letter V and preferably with the grain of the wood running lengthwise between their upper and lower ends. The side members are of greater widthat their lower ends 7) than at their upper ends 0 so that they taper from the former to the latter. The side memberspreferably also taper in thickness from their lower ends Z; to their upper ends 0, and are rounded ofi or beveled at their edges or corners as indicated at d, to avoid sharp edges or corners liable to splinter or become rough and to tear or. otherwise damage the clothes or articles op erated upon.
The side members a are connected by horizontal bars f preferably of wood and circular section, and arranged near the wi-dth of the side members.
front and rear and lower edges of the mem bers. The ends of the bars 7 are fitted in recesses orholes m formed in the sidemenr.
bers and which may extend only partially or completely therethrough. The bars 7 serveto secure the side members (4 together: and the ends of the bars may be secured .inthe recesses or holes m-simply by being driven. thereinor by means of dowels or pins 11, as indicated in l ig. 2. The side members a may be further secured togethenby; one or more bars 9' arranged between the front and rearbars f and about themiddle of the The ends of the bar or bars 9 may be inserted or driven into recesses or holes 0 in the side members a and,
if desired, securedtherein by dowels or pins 7), as also indicated in'F'ig. 2. The sidemen bers a are also formed with a'pluralityoi holes 6 or other. apertures through which in use the water in which the clothes'or articles are cleansed may pass.
The plunger or dolly is provided with an operating handle it secured toits upper end. The end of the handle it may be fitted in a hole or recess formed between the upper ends of the side members a and be secured therein by a dowel pin, nail or the like j, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Alternatively, an apertured cap or disc is may be secured on the upper end of the side members a' and they end of the handle fitted in the aperture of the cap or disc and secured therein by a dowel, pin, nail or the like as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. In the latter arrangement, the cap or disc also assists in holding the side members together.
A washing plunger, dolly or the like constructed as above described considerably reduces splashing of the water in comparison with known plun 'ers, dollies or the like, the water which spurts and splashes within the device being broken up by the bars f. ()w ing to the shape and arrangement of the side members lapping or clinging of the clothes or articles on or to the plunger, dolly or the like is reduced to a minimum and the c0nstruction of the plunger, dolly or the like is such that it will withstand'rough usage.
to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, comprising side members suitably spaced at their lower ends and connected together by bars.
' What I claim as mvinvention and desire I 2. A washing plunger do-lly or the like according to the preceding claim, wherein the side members are inclined towards each other upwardly, and the bars are arranged near the edges of the side members.
3. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, according to claim 1, wherein the sine members are connected together by bar ranged at about the middle of their width.
4. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, according to claim 1, wherein the side mem bers taper in Width from their lower to their upper ends.
5. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, according to claim 1, wherein apertures are provided in the side members.
6. A washing plunger, dolly or the like. comprising a handle, a pair ol divergent strips connected together and to tl e handle at their upper ends, and b rs connecting said strips along their side et ges and di vergent end edges.
7. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, comprising a pair of divergent stri 3s and bars connecting said strips. along their side edges and divergent end edges.
8. A Washing plunger, dolly or the like, comprising a pair of divergent strips, a handle connected to said strips at their convergent ends, and spaced bars connecting the divergent end edges of said strips.
neeaere 9. The plunger, dolly or the like, as set forth in claim 8 in which the strips are perforated from face to face.
10. The plunger, dolly or the like, as set forth in claim in which the strips are perforated from face to face.
11. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, comprising divergent strips, a cap member connecting said strips at their convergent ends, a handle connected to said cap member, and spaced bars connecting the divergent portions of the strips.
12. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, comprising divergent strips, a cap member connecting said strips at their convergent ends, a handle, a pin passing through the handle and cap member to anchor the handle to said member, and spaced bars connecting the divergent portions of the strips.
13. A washing plunger, dolly or the like, comprising a pair of divergent strips, an apertured cap member connecting said strips at their convergent ends, a handle passing through and anchored to said cap member, and spaced bars connecting the divergent portions of the strips.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
ABRAHAM TAYLOR.
